  • ok thanks anyways ...I'll be sure to have a look in :)

    About the Newcastle Wing Hong.....

on their website (which doesnt seem to load at the moment, but can get the front page up by loading googles cached page)

    I have 2 address's listed.

    Cash & Carry:
55 George Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7JN

    and
    Supermarket
    45-51, Stowell Street,ChinaTown,Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4YB

firstly, would I be right in thinking the Cash & Carry is for traders only or something like that? Which would have the most choice etc?

Secondly, is there decent parking if I was to make a 32mile round trip detour from work to get to it (fair trip but not as bad as paying up to 13quid delivery on the hoohing website)

Lastly, does it have good variety, ie fresh veg and such (after getting Pak Choi for example which online shops can't buy cos unsuitable for posting)........and does it sell the big 5ltr tubs of distilled vinegar, and big 3kg or whatever packets of bicarbonate of soda and cornflour and the likes....as want this stuff ideally for soap making and fizz bombs and the likes...aswell as getting proper japanese foods and suchlike.

    cheers,
    Tuck

I've been to the Wing Hong supermarket on Stowell Street quite a few times. They have a decent variety of fresh veg (some I haven't even heard of), last time I bought a load of fresh ginger for a fraction of the price you'd pay in Tesco. I have seen big bottles of vinegar there but I'm not sure about bicarb or cornflour because I haven't looked. They're good for herbs & spices, big bags cheaper than the little bottles you get in supermarkets.

As for parking, we've just parked outside the supermarket but my OH has a blue badge, I'm not sure if there's "normal" parking. I think there is a multi-story car park on Stowell street though.

  • cheers....

sounds like a trip is definately needed to that bigger place then :) At least for 1 look anyways to compare and stock up :)

Do they also sell fresh meat or is it only frozen stuff I presume? Curious to these turtles and things mind (tho suspect I'll prob never be brave enough to try :)) - plan to get some dried anchovies if they do them too

As per parking, read on searching a result on some fishing site (they buy some stuff for bait) someone had posted in past saying its about 90p for an hours parking there....tho was some time ago...

  • There is an NCP and another underground carpark for the Gate leisure complex on Stowell Street. Both are fairly expensive per hour.

If you come in at the opposite end from where the huge Chinese gate entrance is, there is parking just behind Stowell Street which is cheaper, down by Black Friars if you know where that is.

Or there's St James' Park which is just nearby.

  • not a clue where any of it is to be honest :) rarely ever get into Newcastle and never been to that part...didnt even know there was a chinatown area in newcastle :P Will have to note it down. At least should only need to park for an hour or 2 tops for first checkout of the place

    Hi,

I'd recommend parking at St James' or the Stawberry Place car park (so long as its not a match day). Its 40p an hour, the NCP and the Gate multistory are much more expensive.

I've never been to the one on George street, I thought it was for trade only, I might try there next time.

One advantage (or disadvantage depending on your purse) of the one on Stowell street is it's just a short walk up to the Lakeland shop!
