What if...your managed fund or stockbroker

...goes bust?

For example, what if you have funds with a stockbroker through which you deal shares and that stockbroker goes bust; are you a creditor or are your monies protected and ring fenced in a client account? Just wondered.

Again, what if you have a fund managed i.e. a tracker fund and the fund managing company goes bust - what happens to your monies? Is there any protection?

Are there examples of either in the UK?

Again, just curious.
