I hope someone can help. My husband will not go on escalators or in lifts, can we get around Stansted without using them? does it have stairs to get upstairs?.
I really don't want to waste and miss my holiday:eek:
Many thanks

From memory; All on one level no stairs no lifts, but please check the BAA website0

it really depends which gates you'll fly. If you on Ryanair you should be fine, as these gates are accessed by direct walk. There is an escalator, but it has a stairs next to it.
If you on the gates where you need to take the tram, you'll likely to have to take the escalator or lift, as I cannot remember seeing any stairs from the train level to the next level up.
Hope this helps somewhat0 -
used escalator when i went..was max jet (now gone down pan )
it is pretty much on one level though0 -
There are both Escalators/lifts and Stairs to all the gates, Also by law that has to be in place, Do not fear and if your Hubby is uncomfortable with that idea and worried then give the airport a call and get piece of mind "Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

You mean he won't use an escalator but he'll happily be crammed in to a metal tube for a few hours?0

No he wont happily be crammed in, this is the first time he has flown. I want to make the experience as less stressful as possible and face one fear at a time.
Thanks everyone else for there useful replies they make me feel much better:T0 -
Is a flight from Stansted the best place to give your husband his first flight.
Few, if any, of the flights from there have spacious seating0 -
Air Berlin is a civilised way of flying from Stansted, Ryanair rather less so.0

If you're flying easyjet/air berlin then you've got no choice but to use an escalator or lift when you make your way to the sattelites.
Oddly enough, despite working there for 5 years, im struggling to think about the ryanair sat, ive got a feeling thats escalators and lifts, whenever I go out to the sat im always walking against the traffic so never notice what the general public have to put up with.
One other issue if your worried about such things in STN then what about the other end, have you ensured that the other airport doesnt have escalators and lifts.Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right0 -

Once he is there then he has past the major hurdle of flying so an escalator would surely be a doodle.
I am very surprised that there are not Stair options in all routes to the next floor ?"Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."
