antipsam 246 - I assume when you apply for it online, the account numbers are generated once you click the 'submit' button (or somthing similar) without going through ID checks and all that. I assume that will go for other savings accounts?
I believe so, once you've submitted the application and it's fully processed then the account number is generated, that's atleast how it's worked for my other Barclays accounts.0 -
Edit: I've noticed alot, not just in this thread, alot of people complaining about past problems opening their Barclays ISA, just to oppose that. I had zero problems when I opened my Tax Haven ISA, nor with any of my other Barclays accounts.
As a note, you may want to remember that people tend only to post the negatives and not the positives. If something works swimmingly people will rarely post about it, they're just glad it's done and that's that, when something goes wrong on the other hand, everyone likes a good moan, I'm no exception. So I figured I'd just say I've had no problems with them as far as opening accounts.0 -

Or alternatively look at the polls conducted on this forum from last year to see how Barclays performed.

So no ID checks are needed then...dreamypuma wrote: »Or alternatively look at the polls conducted on this forum from last year to see how Barclays performed.
I've seen the polls about the Barclays Tax Haven ISA opening. Hopefully, this problem won't happen again. They will learn from their mistakes.0 -

Funny that, it's exactly what I told myself last year. :rotfl:
Now I remember why I took my current account away from them.My farts hospitalize small children0 -

That's good. Looks like last years problem won't happen!
I take it you work for Barclays.0 -
By sheer coincidence my daughter was looking at opening a savings account so I've been doing the fatherly thing this afternoon. I saw this thread and, as she's a Barclays online customer, we decided to try applying.
Five minutes later she's the proud owner of her first ISA :-)
I'm sure there'll be an account out there that beats it, but 3.61% is not to be sniffed at in the current climate.0 -
Can't say I'm too impressed if you already have cash in an ISA. I opened a Barclays Tax Haven account last year and fully-funded it and now it appears to be down to 2.1% and that includes my 1% bonus (started at 6.1%). Given that I won't be able to transfer my Tax haven ISA into the new one it seems to make most sense to open one I can transfer into rather than leave this years cash sitting in a low rate account for the sake of a few tenths of a percent on next year's cash.
For what it's worth, I had very few problems opening my Tax Haven ISA.0 -

Agreed. For new money you can get great rates (relatively!). But for existing money (of which I have a fair bit) it's not so easy to find accounts that allow transfer-ins.
Going by this ever-useful thread:

There seems to be about 0.5% point between those that don't, and that that do, allow transfers. (Note the First Direct ISA doesn't allow transfers from existing First Direct ISAs.0
