I would like to thank all the contributors to my original post back in July last year, yesterday I received a letter from Morgan Stanley agreeing to write off the outstanding debt.
Please see link below for my original post (hope it works)

I did write a letter in July last year and initially they agreed to an offer of £2 a month with a review in 6 months.
Well I decided to write to them in January to update them with the latest situation before they contacted my mother. Her health has got worse, she spent Christmas and New Year in hospital and has been diagnosed with Crohns disease, a condition that is not helped by stress and is another disabling condition, meaning in short my mother is never ever going to work again. I explained this to Morgan Stanley in my latest letter and I also asked them to look at why there is an outstanding balance on the account.
Namely, Norwich Union had made numerous late payments during the 3 years of minimum payments on the PPI policy and that Morgan Stanley had ignored everyone of my mothers letters requesting that Interest be frozen. Norwich Union did pay off the balance outstanding when the PPI kicked in, but late payment charges and interest had accrued and that is what my mum could not pay (Approx £1K).
She is hugely relieved about the whole thing, my mum has never been one to shy away from paying for her debts, but now she can put this whole episode behind her and try to get on with her life.

That's brilliant! What a relief for your poor mum. Just make sure you take copies of that letter and keep them safe as these things sometimes surface again at a later date and you may need to prove that it has been written off.Mortgage-free wannabe!0
