Royal mail are useless; got a letter today for an appointment on the 23nd of last month and as far as I know I don't have the power to travel back in time... was an odd phone call trying to tell them why I missed the appointment.

Im having trouble with royal mail too, big time:(
I have posted two items via recorded, and they haven't turned up, and im getting the same message as op when i try to track them.
I also have had so many expected letters not arrive, including credit card statements and bank statements, along with 3 parcels i was expecting to arrive and, yes no sign of them.
I have made complaints via the web and am still waiting for a response.
One thing i have noticed, is that when i see the postman in my road, he leaves his bike (with postbag etc still on it) at one end of the road, while his at the other end. I live on a very busy main road, any anyone could happily help themselves. Are they allowed to leave their bikes like this??

As long as the bag is empty there is really no problem with leaving it on the bike.
Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T

    No the bags never empty!
Iv'e walked past it many times, and there is plenty for the taking! (not that i ever would, but you catch my drift).
Our postie has to go back on himself, because there is a cross road in the middle of our road. so to save time pushing the bike with him, he just grabs the mail for the opposite end of the road, leaving the bike and all contents behind.

I never received a couple of Birthday cards from royal mail :(

I live in a block of flats (8 flats per block) in a square with 4 blocks. We all end up getting each others mail and have to go round and post what should go where. They're all clearly numbered, and numbered correctly on letters too. Just think the postman cant be bothered and just chucks em in anywhere.
I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:

Dunno whether to answer you all individually or not.. but here goes.

Susi, they have your item at a post pffice? That suggests that the receiver of the package has requested it to be sent to a post office for collection and that a delivery attempt has been made.Or if you meant delivery office, then an attempted delivery has also been made and it's awaiting collection. Won't say anything more until it's been collected.

NSF1965 I believe it's standard practice if you can't find the proof of sending to send you first class stamps. Do you think they would refund everyone who said they had a parcel go missing? Now you have found your proof of posting, get back on to them.

Takoda, most of the Royal Mail staff would prefer to have a regular duty instead of covering for people who are off sick. A lot of offices are changing all the duties around atm as the length of the duty is changing in a lot of places, some managers are trying to change this themselves, others are waiting for the pegasus team to come and do it. Times going from 3.5 hrs to 4.25 hrs. It could be that your office is going through something like this atm. or maybe your regular postie is on long term sick, therefore needing to cover it by whoever is available for overtime. It sux when you are not getting the mail that you should be. This is where the delivery office manager needs to know what's happening.

foxxymynx - You don't say which way the parcel was sent, is it by trackable means? I'm not going to defend RM all the time, they do make mistakes, but by and large it's because of poorly addressed items.

charleypink is it a lockable bag? If not as above I suggest that you contact the delivery office manager, again, he may not be aware that this is happening.

garangy that just sucks. That's a very good example of poor customer service.

so2006 - as custardly said, google it. Royal Mail, Name of town and you get full contact details.

GonzoAston - Again it sux, have you asked the postie about this? is it a new postie (not that it should matter as your flats are clearly numbered). Again I would advise to contact the delivery office manager.

Just for the record. Any recorded items that are awaiting collection will stay there for 1 week before being returned to sender. If there has been a redelivery attempt, the 7 days starts from the redelivery date. Over the christmas period, we had one lady kept requesting a redelivery for her recorded packet, so it ended up we kept it for a month, she was never home at the times she requested a redelivery, so it ended up we had the packet for almost a month.

Edit : Sorry I missed this one Mandybahm - The same thing has happened to me. Received an appointment card on the 22nd of Jan for the 23rd Jan, it was postmarked the 22nd Jan. I was lucky that I have an understanding manager and managed to get the time off work without any notice. Do you think it has been lost in RM's system for a few days or do you think it's been laying in a hospital tray waiting to go out?

I'm not gonna defend RM, they are the biggest bunch of numpties out. I will however defend 99% of the posties out there. Many of the complaints about RM are nothing to do with the posties, and many of them are hard working lads n lassies.

    Ok got writers cramp now.
