  • Register with toptable.co.uk. This has some great restaurant deals on it.

Another good place for cheap eating is Belgo in covent garden. On their website they advisertise that you pay accoridng to what time you arrive at the restaurant. I.e the earlier the cheaper. They have a decent kids menu too, and its a good restaurant for interest / atmosphere.

Thanks working mum. I will have a look.

I have now sent for 3 tussards passes and enough days out tokens to pay for the tower of london and london zoo. Hoping that this together with a bit of sight seeing should make a good holiday.

There's a new Travelodge opening in the middle of London this Summer. Go to the Travelodge website and sign up for their mailings and you will get to know if they do any £10 rooms there in the weeks after it opens. We stayed at City Airport Travelodge just before Christmas the week after it opened on £10 deal when all the other Travelodges were £26 upwards.
  • For a cheap evening/night out get onto https://www.lastminute.com for cheap theatre tickets and a meal around £15..if I remember rightly they had some lion king tickets...the seats aren't fantastic but if you are staying in Covent Garden then the theatres won't be out of walking (safely) distance. Also a great place for your 8 yr old is the Natural History Museum (free for kids I think) dinasours etc..On the south bank is the London Aquarium not sure of price, but great if you are doing the eye. Make sure you reasearch the area before you book travel lodge type hotels in london, as often they are in less disireable locations!!!!
  • Another good trip is to get a boat from houses of parliament down to Greenwich. In Greenwich you can visit the Royal Observatory, the National Maritime museum and the Cutty Sark, plus there is a cool market there and various places to eat.
You never know how far you can fly, till you spread your wings.

    Hi

We have decided to visit London in the summer holidays. I was thinking early August. There will be 2 adults and 1 8year old child.

We are travelling by national express as it is under £60 return, unless someone can suggest a cheap rail fare from Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

If you can take a train from Barnsley to Sheffield (£2.80), then Midland Mainline offers singles from £6 if booked in advance to London.

  • Does anyone know if you can use the combined tickets (e.g. Oyster) on the DLT?

The Oyster card can be used on the DLR (if that's what you meant) and would advise to use it as well.
Otherwise you'll pay far more cash on one journey than you would do on Oyster.
