The best way to get a shine is to get your hair semi or quasi coloured, this swells the shaft and makes my hair super shiny for weeks. I also use a paddle brush. I never use conditioner as I find it too heavy and it leaves my hair the opposite of shiny!
  • Schawrzkopf Gliss range is excellent! If you are blonde, sadly blondes have less shiny hair :(
When shampooing and conditioning make sure you massage your head and run your fingers through hair so it is evenly spread.

Never bother repeating shampoo or conditioner, it's pointless.

Beer is a good way of getting shine, once you have shampooed and conditioned, pour the beer over your head and work through well using your fingers, rinse with lukewarm water.

(it is better if the beer if flat, and does not smell strong)

As for my mother - she makes all these remarks because in her eyes I am a complete failure:rolleyes: Still, that's her opinion and I don't really care what she says (I am 47 for gawd's sake and the way she goes on you would think I was 5:mad: ).

And your mother is so fantastic why, precisely??? Hmmmmm ? ?

She sounds like a complete cow, if you don't mind me saying so (and apologies if you do, but it has made me so cross that your mum can talk to you like this!)

In my experience, people make these kind of comments when they are secretly jealous, so this could be a possibility. Maybe she is envious of you so tries to undermine you to make her feel better.

Whatever the reason is, she's still a cow-bag though!!

Personally I hate the thought of putting all those chemicals/toxins/parabens, etc. on my skin and hair as we can absorb up to 60% of the stuff through our skin and that can't be healthy

I use pure henna powder/strong cold coffee and vinegar (rinsed well or you smell like a chip shop!) to keep the grey at bay and ensure my hair has a nice sheen. It does take effort to go "the natural way", but I resent paying a fortune to load my skull with chemicals and have fun experimenting. I even make my own hair spray, which isn't bad icon7.gif

MimiJane you make your own hairspray???? OMG how? I spend a fortune on hairspray (with dyed hair and a bathroom full of toiletries you can probably tell I am not so bothered about the chemicals!) But that sounds great, how do you do it? Do you put it into a normal hairspray thing with an atomiser or more of a spray bottle? I'm intrigued!

Just a word, but have you had a good hair cut recently? May be you should think of having that done which may improve the look of your hair and then using all the vits and stuff above. I use aussie range of shampoos and conditioners and think they are great. You can get several different brands of spray on shine.

I also use the Babyliss hair dryer brush with ionic plates (or some such). My sister recommended it and its very good - gives your hair body and shine.

Good luck and get on the diet after you get your hair sorted - not for mum, but for yourself

    Hi,

It's really easy and the same "recipe" is all over the internet (though you have to experiment a little).

. Chop a couple of lemons into small pieces and simmer in a pan with half a cup of water for 1 hour, adding small amounts of water as you go along, so you end up with a fairly sticky liquid (but not too thick).

    . Strain the mixture.

. Add a tablespoon of alcohol (I use vodka) to act as a preservative at the end and, if you want a slightly better hold, you can add a little sugar.

. I also split open a few capsules of grapeseed extract, which you can buy from Holland & Barratt and add this. Again, this acts as a natural preservative, though this isn't vital, just my way of trying to make it last longer!

. You can buy small plastic pump/mist spray containers from Boots to put the mixture in and it must be kept in the fridge so it doesn't go "off".

. Use the mixture within 2 to 3 weeks. There are no synthetic preservatives in it (unlike bought hairsprays), so it won't last indefinitely.

    . Keep it refrigerated

It holds my hair well, but does go on rather wet, so don't use too much at a time. You can also use it on damp hair, then blow-dry.

My next project is home-made mascara as bought ones tend to irritate my eyes. Don't hold out too much hope for this one though as it will be difficult to get the fibres which add length/volume to the lashes. Worth a go though!

Hope this helps and have fun!

    my tips are-

    - when i first get in the shower i thoroughly shampoo to remove any product build up and put on a rich conditioner with some sort of protien in it - check ingredients then leave it on for the duration of my shower - in the mean time shave your legs or whatever you like to do! and rinse it out is the last thing i do

    - rinse with a blast of cold water to seal the cuticle of the hair
    - start by combing with a wide tooth comb and progress to a brush working from tips to roots to stop breakages and split ends
    - i try and only towel dry as a hairdryer will just strip moisture from your hair
    - run a serum through the ends - not roots as this will make them greasy i use paul mitchel
    - i rotate my shampoos to avoid build up and so my hair doesnt get used to them. a rich one is the awapui i think its spelt like that from paul mitchell

    - i have heard of rinsing with vinegar to give shine- i think its the acid that does it
    - use a ultra rich repair treatment once a week that you leave on for 10mins at the weekend

aveda damage remedy smells lovely and is super good if pricey

not a big fan of highstreet hair stuff but matrix (sleek look range is dead good) paul mitchell and aveda are all top notch
