my estate is supplied by an IGT and they don't cater for this on their website despite the fact from my postcode they should know this!
It's not always as simple as this, no comparison site takes this into account as it is so awkward to manage - sometimes a new estate may be on an IGT, sometimes the estate was built as two and only half of it is.
The only way they (or anyone) can tell is from the MPR - if it begins with 7 is is an IGT.

Off the top of ny head, BG, SSE, Ebico don't charge extra for IGT's, and I'm sure at least one other doesn't, but my source was on the Energywatch website which has gone.

But funnily enough didn't you put someone off Utility Warehouse the other day on account of there being negative comments from customers?

Might have. Well, I think I said they were unpopular because there is at least one long thread on this board with largely unfavourable feedback and suggested the poster searched the forum. I don't have any experience of them so didn't mean to put someone off, just suggested some research.

I can't be the only one who has got caught out. From what I understand most new builds are supplied via an IGT because they are cheaper for the building company.
Big developements commonly are - smaller developements probably not. I organise gas supply and IGT are not always cheapest, sometimes they quote much more for the work.

What is IGT

I have just transferred to NPower on the strength of comparison sites.
An average day in my life:hello: :eek::mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T :o :rotfl: :rotfl: :p :eek::mad: :beer:
I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.
;discussion/1535345]Just done a price comparison npower come out cheaper but I'm a bit put off by some of the negative comments about their customer service.

Are they that bad?
I am in the same situation as you and I am very tempted, but I think I've rarely seen such overwhelmingly bad reviews all over the places (not just on this website but on every single company review website I can find)...

Have to say, IME, they really are that bad...
My tale is long, complicated and boring, but suffice to say that it has taken just short of ONE YEAR to resolve THEIR OWN BILLING errors... They said they had never had a reading off either my gas or leccy in the five years I had lived at the property...they had, they just didn't 'file' them correctly.
The only reason it is (I hope...) sorted now is that I have had to repeatedly chase them, many many times, over the last ten months. They only ever do anything when you have rung them, and each time the process starts again.

I have been told in email and verbally today that my accounts are both up to date, and paid up, once that is confirmed in writing, I will be off. I shall not look back, and I will take pity on anyone who ever has a billing issue with Npower.

They really are a shower of *****
• I think they really are that bad. I was with them for 18 months finishing 6 months ago. In that time they pulled every stunt possible to get as much money out of me as possible. They are the only people I know who think a year is less than 365 days long, they pushed my "cheapest" tariff up as surreptitiously as possible so it no longer was and I am still fighting to get them to pay me back all of the money they took that was not needed to pay for the gas/electricity I used. You have to be really sharp and persistent to keep up with their moral dishonesty and achieve that cheapest rate you see on the comparison sites.

npower scored a 32% satisafction rating in Which's last survey of energy suppliers. Even British Gas got 40%! 'Nuff said? :p But, it really all depends on your own personal experience - I'm sure there will be many many people who have never experienced a problem with them (having said that, these people also wouldn't know what sculpting was if it bit them on the derriere, lol).

I too have had a problem with Npower's billing in respect all my gas bill charges came in as £0.00 like I hadn't used any. After every bill I phoned them and gave them an up to date meter reading and thought everything would be put right but alas no. Now finally after over a year and my winter bill, someone actually took notice of me and I have had my gas bill calculated back from Sept 07 to present date.I made a complaint and have had some compensation and the people I have dealt with have always been pleasant, but I also feel like leaving them and going elsewhere, but as most people state they normally still come out top as being the cheapest.
• Hmmm. Not sure if its worht saving £50 a year to have all this hassle...
