Does anyone have a soft close toilet seat?

Options
If you have a soft close toilet seat - does the seat stay up when a fella is using it? We've just had a new toilet fitted with soft close seat and the seat wont stay up, it starts to close straight away. Either the men will have to be quick or sit down :rotfl:

Just wondering if it's a fault and we need to speak to our supplier.

If it's a fat seat and it's stopped going back far enough by the cistern it may be a problem on some.
    I've fitted a couple.
Needed to be back ever so slightly to stay up on one, if it was upright it would start to close, the other one could fall to about 60 degrees, then the soft close took over.

I have a soft close toilet seat & yes it does stay up when in the man use position.

Must be a bit off putting for fellows in your house when the seat starts to return to base.:rotfl:
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Luckily we've not moved in yet, the house is being renovated and the toilet was installed by the builder yesterday.

I did tell OH that I was positive it should stay up, good to know I'm right :D.

Showing my ignorance here Mikey - what's a fat seat? (Or am I missing something obvious here, I'm quite good at that!)

I wouldn't laugh too hard as men being men will just leave the seat down

That'd be right - usually they don't have to clean the toilet!

Fat as in thick, so that when you open them they rest against the cistern before quite tipping backwards, and sometimes slam back down as you're using it, (rather than the thin plastic ones that stay up without having to stand with your knee pressed against it)
At least a soft close seat closes slowly!

    Ah, got you now :rotfl:

No, not a particularly fat seat I'd say. Builder has to tweak the cistern lid a bit as it doesn't seem to sit right at the moment, so if he can't get that sorted or the seat we'll get back to the supplier.
  • Ours (bought from wickes) had same problem. Even though it lifted past the vertical position, it sprung back a little and fell back down. Had to position the seat quite far forward so that it could be lifted well past verical for it to stay. Even now it springs back a little but not enough to fall back down.
