I have a soft close toilet seat and find it really annoying. Ever since I watched an episode of Your Are What You Eat two years ago, I always close the seat before flushing. This one takes ages to close and if I force it quicker I worry I will break it!

I set mine to close, wash my hands and then flush.

Our lid has lost it's SOFT and now crashes down if you forget. The seat still works OK. I was a bit dubious when we got it about how long it would last !

Does anyone know if you can mend them ?

Well, the builder has done everything he can and he's brought the seat as far forward as possible but it still wont stay up. OH will get onto the suppliers tomorrow or Monday and see what they say. Hopefully a replacement which wont have the same problem.

    Teach him to sit.

We managed it with our pooch in just a couple of weeks .... so it will take longer with the average male ;) The OH had me trained years ago ..... on the basis that if I continued to insist it was macho to stand and pee on the edge of the pan / floor ....... guess who was taking over the cleaning.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    :rotfl:

Funny you should say that. My son (grown up) always sits, always has done, without any prompting from Mom. My d-i-l loves it. They have two sons, the older one also sits, the younger one puts his hands behind his back and pushes his hips/belly forward  . Guess which one I prefer to visit my loo ;) .

Snap ours does the same too. Did u get it from Argos by any chance?
  • (of course, both genders should have the lid down when flusing, to prevent pee-rinsed water droplets flying through the air all over everything.)

I got one from wickes which is great, closes quickly but slows at the last minute and opens easily too.

However they don't do the same hinge anymore and all the others I have tried are much harder to move and seem to have this 'memory' effect moving back an inch or two when you let go meaning when you put them vertical they spring back to an inch or two off vertical - and then descend. Only way round this seems to be to hold it vertical for a while. I am guessing there is a thick liquid that gets squeezed through a small hole and it is a matter of waiting for the pressure on each side to equalise in the vertical position to avoid the spring back effect.
    I think....
