When I first started running I used to get a very stiff neck and back, because I was holding myself very stiffly. I have to make a conscious effort to relax my neck and shoulders. Could you get someone 'in the know' to watch you run and see if they can spot anything obvious about your running style that might be causing it?

I guess if you run hunched or tensed up then you probably would get stiff trying to counteract using those muscles. A sports massage should sort you out
