    !!

You'll get a Whirlpool or Hotpoint pack - oven and hob for 329 in B&Q - stainless steel, good looking and perfectly serviceable. I've happily lived with those in the past. Or go and have a look around any of the currys/comet variety stores, take a note of the model numbers you like and check for cheaper on www.pricerunner.co.uk

Don't feel obliged to buy from your supplier - they're never cheap that way and they're all standard size.

I've heard of CDA but it always makes me think that they bought it with the kitchen. For 650 I'd expect them to be pretty good looking stuff.

German make ...... and they're excellent. We have (integrated) their microwave / oven / dishwasher / hob / extractor and fridge ...... for the past 4 years.

Sole problem has been the extractor. When the bulbs in the canopy blow they take out the fuse / consumer unit ..... and have twice tracked out the switch. That's necessitated replacing the motor as all the wiring is an integrated loom. Done under warranty with no fuss on both occasions. And problem solved by simply replacing the naff extractor bulbs that everyone sells ... with low energy compacts. They blow 'softly' and have no adverse side effects.

And CDA have resolved the problem on later models by putting in low voltage lights, with a transformer.
If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !

    Get yourself down to currys,

Samsung touch sensitive 6kw electric hob & samsung mutli-functional oven - £399 as a package.

Otherwise, Touch sensitive hob - £199, Oven £280.

Though, recently we fitted new oven and hob.

Picked up an ex-display oven from B&Q for £129, and then the touch sensitive oven as above for £199. Its smart as no knobs, just a smooth black surface which the little one cant use.

I'll throw my tuppence worth in (I used to sell kitchn appliances) As a general guide...

    Samsung - Ignis - Indesit - Candy - Creda - Don't touch with a barge pole

Whirlpool - Hotpoint - CDA - Baumatic - Tricity Bendix - Stoves - Teka - If you want them to last 3 or 4 years - go ahead

DeDietrich - Not bad (tend to be overpriced though, not same quality as they used to be)

Smeg - Zanussi - Electrolux - Bosch - Quite good, 5 years plus

AEG - Neff - Siemens - Miele - Kuppersbusch - Very good but expensive 10 - 15 years life span (Altough Neff and Siemens have a complete range relaunch comin up soon, so look for good reductions on the older models)

Gaggenau - Atag - Steel Cusine - Very, VERY expensive, but will last forever

To be honest I think it's a bit of a lottery. Two consecutive cars roll of the conveyor, one has multiple mechanical problems one doesn't.

You may pay £100 or £1000. The £100 oven could work for years without any problems, the other could suffer multiple failings, especially if it's got a lot of science stuffed into it.

I realise this doesn't help much but my point is, don't worry too much. So long as you do a little research to see whether a particular make/model has been notoriously rubbish. I would just go with the one you like.

CDA products are mostly made in Italy out of the same factories as Indesit and the like. They are just an ordinary Italian appliance brand.

20 or 30 years ago if you purchased a Hotpoint appliance you would know it was made in Peterborough - now everything comes from Italy as they are part of Indesit. If you had AEG it stood for Advanced Engineering from Germany it is now part of the Electrolux Zanussi group - the largest manufacturer of white goods in the world across all its brands.

My point is - things aren't always as they first seem with appliance brands.

I have worked with and for quality appliance manufacturers for around 20 years and personally, we only have Miele at home. Across all the product groups no other manufacturer comes close. Every Miele appliance is designed for at least a 20 year life expectancy, they have been recognised as the 'best appliance brand' in the 'Which Awards' for 2007 and 2008 (The Which Awards started in 2007), every Miele appliance is fully tested before it leaves the factory, other manufacturers at most test 1 in 10. This list could go on and on!

Miele single ovens start at around £500 and hobs I think the same. We find the most popular is the basic 'Pyrolytic' oven for £1100 and induction hobs from £900. Pyrolytic ovens have a cleaning system that heats the cavity up to 500 degrees C, which incinerates all the deposits on the oven walls and door etc. so all you need to do when it is finished is wipe it out with a damp cloth. Induction hobs look the same as standard ceramic hobs but transfer the energy differently to the pan making them the most responsive and quickest hobs you can buy, they make even gas hobs look slow and uncontrolable in comparison.

I would also say if your budget does not stretch to Miele then the next best appliances are made by BSH, their brands are Neff, Bosch and Siemens. Neff single ovens with just fan and grill start around £350 and ceramic hobs about the same.

    I hope this info helps.

I got John Lewis own brand and have been really pleased with them plus I liked the neat look of both oven and hob. Prices were good when I bought them a few years ago too. (plus free 3 year guarantee)
