Leaving puppy on own for first time.

I know this sounds mad and i have had 3 puppys in the last 23 years but never one so small.:D
I puppy sit for my son who saved this puppy from old school friends.
Three 22 year olds on own in house had pup for 3 weeks and lost intrest.
Poor thing had worms ,no jabs.any way £ later and a vet billl later we have a puppy again.
The money saving question is how do i leave this pup with out him harming himself which will cost if he hurts himself and the vet bills.

I think you have to start slowly, leave him for a minute & only go back when he's quiet & build it up gradually, only ever returning when he's silent & not making a huge deal out of leaving & coming back. Also, to come & go at different times of day. I can't see the pic :!!

To be fair the cats look fine with him, but have you considered a crate.
Depending on the age of the pup they can be left upto 3 hours in one.
  • lol - are you sure he is a pup, not a hamster??:rotfl:

He is very sweet, what sort of dog is he?

I agree with tigerlily, you may also want to think about getting him a crate to keep him safe from your giant cats, or chewing on things, or falling down plugholes etc. when you are out ;)

Have a look at this article - http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/crate-training.php

As foreign correspondent says see http://www.companyofanimals.co.uk/crate-training.php

Very well known, run by Roger Mugford, and very near to me. In fact my new puppy who will be joining us on 07/03/09 will be going to his puppy training classes.

We have always left the radio on at low volume.

Even now that the dog is older. We like to think it gives a sense of company.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

We have had him 2 weeks now ,the lads before 3 weeks,

Please be careful, he really should have spent more time with his Mother and litter mates to learn about being a dog. Without this he will struggle to learn bite inhibition and other social niceties that go with being a dog. Does your vet hold 'puppy parties'? Go along and watch one - do they allow totally free play, or is it carefully supervised to prevent bullying? If so, try and get your pup in there, he really needs to learn some doggie etiquete. (Sorry, I know this wasn't your original question, but it's an important part of puppy rearing)
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.
