I've drawn up a will leaving the value of my house to be shared equally by my children. Any other money left is to be split equally between my grandchildren after a donation to a charity I support. I've told my children about the contents of my will and hope that they'll enjoy anything I leave instead of fighting over someone else's money.

BTW, If my circumstances change I may not leave anything - and they've been told that too!

MC - I felt the same way about cruises until I went on one. I'd love to do a round the world one and hope that I will before I "shuffle off this mortal coil."

Mum told us what was in her will, but unknown to 4 out of 5 of us, she wrote four more wills in the two months before she died. Only the last one differed substantially and that was drawn up dreadfully incompetently by the "family" solicitor.
Court case resulted.... but only the lawyers really won because of the high charges.

Well lets hope that you are still living in your house when you die. If you move into rented sheltered or a care home and you convert the value of your house into money, then your children won't see a penny.

Poorly structured Wills which fail to account for changes in circumstances are as likely to be the source of disputes as no Will at all.

A well written will and a sense of fairness in it. If the split isn't equal, a letter explaining your reasoning may help to curtail family hatred and misunderstandings.

    hi, everyone,

my mom passed away 2 months ago and i was really hard for me being an only child althouhg i have a family of my own,,,

Mom remarried last year and and SF found out ( a day after my mom passed away) his name was not in my mom's will..my children and I will have the immovable property which is her flat and SF was not happy with it. SF emphasised his anger telling he is only looking after his security.. is that a normal way to say to someone who just lost her mom? I think my mom knew what she was doing not putting his name on her will because she managed to change the nomination on her work pension leaving a quarter to him and rest to my children and myself.

He was so greedy that he wants to reimbursed all his expenses on my mom's funeral even a £20 cost for the softdrinks and a £5 digger tip for the person who digged in the cemetery,,I dont know how to call this man but he is not just a vulture,,Found out as well that he has another woman now, well, he might have known this woman even before my mom passed away,,

I am so angry and I wished i have stop my mom marrying this man when I heard my mom asking me if she was doing the right thing marrying again,,but because i never really knew this man and that i thought my mom was really happy with him, i told her she needs a companion....

I wish i could do something,,i dont think he deserves even a penny from my mom..he lives in my mom's place free without paying a penny for over 5 years,.,

Is there anything I can do...

thanks very much for your support,,I could not easily tell these things to anyone but i know i could get some helpful advises from you though u dont know me.

Normally people do pay for their own funerals via their estate, so it actually seems fair to reimburse him especially if he is not a major beneficiary.

It seems your mother has assessed his 'contribution'quite accurately, leaving him a quater of her pension and the rest to you and your children.

I would follow her wishes to the letter. :)
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

i dont mind the other expenses but to reimburse for a £20 expense on softdrinks and a fiver tip for the gravedigger is just not humane, is it? and even reimbursing for expenses that does not even occur would be greed..

I've avoided all family disputes following the death of a relative.
Mind you, a property with the amount of new build patios we have may get somebody suspicious one day !!
