Hopefully some of you can help that have been there or know whats what.
My girlfriend is in her 1st year at UNI studying Fine Art and currently has a loan of £1600 per term. This does not cover her to live and anything else. The issue is she has not lived at her parents since the age of 16 and has lived with friends over this period. She is unable to get any financial assistance due to the fact that she cannot prove that she does not live at her folks and therefore no one ill entertain her hardship. She has nothing in her name at her folks address nor nothing at any of her friends.
She has been asked to get proof that she has lived away from home for three years but how does she do this.
Any help or advice is appreciated.:money:

It's not a question of where she has lived that defines her independent status, but whether she has supported herself, from earnings or benefits, forat least three years.
Is she claiming that she is estranged from her parents, because that's a different matter?0 -
She is not claiming she was estranged during 2 years of this time she had moved in with her then boyfriend who was on JSA if that helps
Thx for the replies thus far0 -
But is she claiming that she's estranged now and for how long has that been the case?0

She is not claiming she is estranged, should she be? She is living with me at the moment but has no income. She left the family home at 16yrs 6months ish0

She should only claim that she's estranged if she actually is!
Has she supported herself for 3 years as otherwise she should be being assessed on her parents' income. Does it really cost £1600 per term for her to be living with you? It's hardly the same as having "no income". Has she got a job?0 -
Well she still sees her folks but would not go back and live there and there is no room now anyway.
She has been supported by her ex boyfriend in terms of daily living and no does not have a job and in the current climate things are hard.

When you say the money only covers her living costs what do you mean, just her rent, or rent and bills and food but no money for extras. The only reason I ask is that my own loan is only £1100 per term and I am managing on that, so I'm just wondering if maybe if she can't get any more money (claiming indepedant student status is difficult) then perhaps you could have a look at her income and outgoings and consider if she could cut back, as it seems to me that her loan should allow her a reasonable student life.2009 wins: Cadburys Chocolate Pack x 6, Sally Hansen Hand cream, Ipod nano! mothers day meal at Toby Carvery! :j :j :j :j0
