Sorry, but I think there are some places that an energy saving bulb doesn't work. I find the light from it very harsh and sore on my eyes..
Please tell me you don't have a 52inch tv in your living room,
and a 20 inch computer monitor 1ft from your face.

    Ok, I won't :D

And I don't, I'm quite responsible these days, but the energy saving light bulbs just don't cut it for me.

I have the 20w ESBs at home, they still take an age to light up! Totally agree about not having the ESBs in halls and landings.

I have around 30 of the old 100w bulbs and am going to buy more, I really never want to run out of them.

But I have a 20w ESB for my landing light specifically because it is left on all night so that no-one accidently falls down the stairs.

You should maybe try the daylight energy bulbs. I hate the normal energy bulbs (tried them and they made me feel depressed - no kidding!) Someone on here recommended the daylight bulbs, and i've since bought 2. They're more expensive (I was £15 each, but think you can get them cheaper. I bought Biobulbs.) but they're meant to last for about 8 years. Two of them are supposed to be the equivelant of having a lightbox (for SAD) in your room. The 100w equivelant of these are 25w, not 20w like normal energy bulbs.

    Just found 2 for £22.90. http://www.expertverdict.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product1_20051_-1_41368_11051

The energy saving bulbs give off a strob effect when used with dimmer switches. I can't use them either.

You cannot use a dimmer with ESB's , it will damage either or both.

Nothing wrong with that, I was pointing out that they take a while to come up to full brightness.
