2. https://www.jamroll.co.uk for totallly free web hosting - The guys who run the service will help you out, nice people.
3. grab a free template off the net for your design, as suggested above.
Completely agree with the point you need your own domain name. All the ads, and the free domain name make your site unprofessional. Get an email address yourname@domainname.co.uk or whatever so you aren't using a yahoo one
It's amazing how the simple things can really help.

Generally, it's a LOT neater compared with Dreamweaver (although Dreamweaver isn't bad in it's newest incarnations), as it is basically a text editor with built in HTML shortcuts!0
