Bunny if you buy a European made pattern like Burda and measure yourself with a measuring tape in centimetres, it all becomes a lot less 'personal' - can be a good trick sometimes.

Funnily enough thats exactly what I did! There are some free patterns on the Burda Style website and I've downloaded this one ages ago when it was free and now I'm going to make it. It doesn't seem to bad with the sizing chart, I come out as a 44 which seems to equate to a uk 14 which is reasonable to me ( in my head I'm a 12 in my ar!e I'm 14! still better than the 24 I used to be!!!:T ) I spent ages last night sellotaping and cutting and now I have all the pieces and the material that I bought a few weeks ago just need to get some interacing & a zip ( never done zips before - oh well a new lesson there !) and I'm away! watch this space!

    I think it looks goodedited.jpg

The material I used is quite thin so I'm going to get some lining to attach to the facing as you can see my knickers!
I'm really proud of what I've made, its years since I followed a pattern to make a garment and then I had my mother and her decades of dressmaking experience to fall back on, also I've never done a zip before or pleats!!

Folks, if you need help with sewing or have expertise to give to others, The Sewing Forum is a great place to be. There are also clubs being set up by members. Also a good place to find out where good fabric shops are near to you or where there are courses running.

I go to both the Manchester and Widnes clubs and have a great time, helping others and getting help myself. it's important that these skills are developed and passed on. So OS!
