Good tip if you get lost:
Taxis are quite cheap (because nowhere is very far away in Hong Kong usually!) but the drivers don't usually speak more than basic English. Trying to say ANYTHING is not a good idea because usually English pronunciation is rubbish and the driver probably won't even recognise your hotel's name! Get a hotel concierge to write down directions to where you need to get to to give to the driver (any hotel will do, they don't usually ask if you are staying so long as you look like a tourist!) - they will even call a taxi for you for no extra charge.
Oh, and don't try to sit down or lean ANYWHERE but in proper cafes etc in the modern shopping centres (even for a group photo like we did) because the police/security will immediately pounce and move you on and can be very stern and scary even if you have a Cantonese speaker with you
Don't miss the markets - they are just about everywhere in Hong Kong and go on into the early hours of the morning (and they feel really safe).Enjoy Hong Kong - it is still the best place on Earth for shopping and I am really envious that you are going!0 -

Hi Rockman,
Mongkok is in Kowloon. It is a very busy area, so it might be better to use the tube (MTR) to get there to avoid traffic jam.0
