Re-heating curry is easy - if it simmers it is hot enough. It is re-heating a whole chicken that's the problem - get one of those oven thermometers.

As well as the porridge oats mentioned earlier, you can also bulk out mince with breadcrumbs (which helps use up those left over crusts which would normally be thrown away).

I always use barley (though pot barley not pearl as the pearl is like white rice compared to brown)

and lentils and split peas, pulses are great

I've always added a handful of bulgur wheat (with the dried lentils, peas etc in supermarket) which is like couscous and really bulks the mince out.when making mince dishes. I also add lots of carrot, pepper, mushrooms, onions etc. When I was on the weight watchers diet and trying to cook for me and hubby, so that it was nice for him, but low fat for me, I discovered making spag bol/chilli with Quorn mince in equal quantities to the beef mince (you can buy it fresh or frozen). It's not cheaper than mince, but it's a hell of a lot lower in fat, and I still do it now, and I don't think he's ever realised! My friends think it's hilarious. I also always buy chicken breasts when they are on offer, BOGOF or half price, split them in portions of 2 and freeze them, so I nearly always have chicken in the freezer.
