Sky broadband and new build

I'm moving into a new build soon. Since I'll be subscribing to Sky TV I was considering one of their TV/internet/phone packages. Do I still need to contact BT to connect the line and get a phone number? If so, will that not tie me into a BT contract or is there some kind of connection only option? Not sure how all this fits together. I cannot afford to be without internet access. Has anyone else used Sky in this situation? Thanks for any help.

If no line already installed in the property then BT will charge you £130 plus the line rental contract.
Ask Sky to install the line instead, they may do it for free if you're taking the triple bundle with them.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks. The BT postcode checker says I'll only get 2meg. Does that mean that I'd not get any more than that with Sky broadband?0

It depends if Sky are LLU on your exchange, check on samknows.com and see if they are listed under LLU Operators under your exchange. If not, then they will be using the BT network and likely you'll get the same speed.
If they are, then you may get a faster speed, best to check with them. But if you're going the Sky route to save the BT install charge, then you're going to have to go with whatever Sky can give you anyway. 2MBps will do the job unless you want to download lots of video files.
The BT postcode checker is only a guide, it cannot give you an accurate speed, it's just based on a theoretical calculation based on straight line distance from the exchange. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks. My main concern is that I have broadband connectivity from the day I move in. I've always used BT for my broadband. The last move I made they sorted the broadband same day. Should Sky be able to ensure I get TV, phone and internet all from day one? If there's any doubt then I'll just go BT again and review it all later but I'm aware of the cost savings available now.0

I don't know what Sky lead times are but it depends when you can give them access to install the line. If you don't have access until the day you move in then probably not. And presumably you don't want to place the order until you've completed on the property...
Remember you can't order Sky TV unless you have a phone line in place or ordered anyway.
If you went with BT I don't think there's any guarantee that they can physically install a new line and enable broadband on the same day. You would need to check with them.No free lunch, and no free laptop

BT do have a £29.99 connection offer but it requires you to take out an 18 month contract.0
