For those who undertake 'heavy' printing and don't mind using non-original compatible ink cartridges, the really excellent http://shop.ink.co.uk/shop/subcategory/catid/D-Canon/subcatid/Canon+PIXMA+MP190&prodanz=6&order=verfuegbarkeit/site/1/lng/en_EN?shopid=a1bd487b5ca3206ffce9f96836793be6&visitid=&refid= has some really cheap, but not straight forward options.
Before you shoot me down, remember that the largest original canon cartridge replacement pg40 is only 16ml and cl41 is only 12ml.
at shop.ink, you can buy a black starter kit containg 3 x 22ml cartridges (37.5% larger than originals) and the important compatible printer head for £26.97, thereafter, 22ml cartridges are £5.97.
Similarly, the colour starter kit with 3 x 21ml (75% larger than originals) colour cartridges is £31.97, thereafter, 21ml cartridges are £5.97.
(small shipping fee depending on what is ordered, but you do get 25 photo sheets free and 450 note box free). So, although the initial outlay seems quite expensive, the cartridges will last a lot longer and follow on cartridges are then quite cheap. Using compatibles does invalidate any warranty if a warranty is worth having when you consider the cost of returning it anyway.
I have used their cheap cartridges lots for my canon mp510 and am very happy.I have gained from advice as well as bargains here, so if I can help in any way, I am only too pleased to do so and appreciate your thanks.0 -
Only original Canons will show the ink level.and they are Horribly expensive..............if you go to the maintenance pro gramme, their is an option to use a lower amount of ink, this is quite satisfactory for most people, (but not for Photos.)0

Has anyone actually refilled the cartridges for this printer?
I have a 960i printer and was looking for another Canon that can be refilled.Seth.0 -
Cash back runs out end of the month..
If the stock lasts that long
This promotion is only available on purchases of a new Canon PIXMA MP190 from Ebuyer.com between Sunday 1st March 2009 and Tuesday 31st March 2009 inclusive.Seth.0 -
Dont get mixed up between compatible cartridges and remanufactured cartridges.
Compatibles = brand new, but not made by Canon.
+Very Cheap(£2 to £4 each). +95% reliable. -Not available for all makes.
Remanufactured = genuine Canon inks that have been used then refilled
+Cheap(typically £5 to £10 each). -60% reliable
You can't get compatibles for Canon PG37, CL38, PG40, CL41 or for any HP, Dell or Lexmark but you can get remanufactured.
Compatibles are still available for the older canon inks or for Brother or Epson.
If you want 100% reliablility then you'd need genuine inks, but these come at quite a price!0 -
hi just wanted to add my 2p worth - the canon outlet on Ebay is also great for printer bargains (and other canon stuff like cameras). They are refurbished, may be ex display, or returns, and come with the same FULL guarantee you would get if you bought brand new.

I got a MP210 for £15; once delivery was added it was a bit more, but i was so pleased with my bargain. It is a great printer, photos come out great for such a cheap printer, and as i'm not a heavy user i'm not too fussed about the cartridge costs. i shop around and can usually find the 40 and 41 cartridges for about £12-15 with free delivery when i need them.
just worth bearing in mind once the ebuyer promotion finishes; or if you are looking for a cheaper camera.0 -
don't waste your time buying one of these printers the inks alone are expensive if you can get remanufactured or compat cartridges chances are they won't work or if they do they won't work for the full cycle due to electrical issues.
I can't understand why canon dell lexmark etc are allowed to keep producing cheap printers that cost a fortune when it comes to buying inks just promoting a throw away society

Hi Puddings, you are quite right to point out the differences between remanufactured and compatible. However, I beg to differ and I can assure you that the link I provided and prices I gave are for compatibles. ie, new cartridge tanks. A modified printhead is provided with the starter kit which can then house compatible (new) 'snap and print' ink tanks. These are NOT remanufactured, but new, and are perfectly compatible with the Canon PG37, CL38, PG40, CL41 originals.I have gained from advice as well as bargains here, so if I can help in any way, I am only too pleased to do so and appreciate your thanks.0
