Virgin Media Minimum Cable Line Speed

Can anyone tell me what is the minimum speed Virgin now offer on their cable service? I've got a friend who has been with them about 9 months. He doesn't know which service he is on but is getting only about 2MBps. He is connecting via cable modem into the PC, not wireless, not through a set top box (he doesn't have Virgin TV, just BB).
I thought I saw an earlier thread that suggested all their customers were being upgraded to minimum 5MBps? If this is so, do they do this automatically or do you have to ask for it, and do you need an upgraded modem-I think they now supply a wireless router as standard on new contracts?

Thanks, no indication on there though as to when all 2MBps subscribers will reap the benefits. Could take them a year from May to complete the process.
What are the people who contracted to 2MBps before February paying then?

2MB customers are being upgraded automatically to 'up'to 10MB (it has to state up to as regards to variations regarding time of day, whatever websites are being accsessed etc) - this is being implemented shortly and all customers will be notified
