Think things are ever going to get better ?, think again.

It seems Saudi oil production peaked in 2005, this is bad news for anyone who thinks normality will return, when Saudi peaks, so does the world. I've been looking into this subject now since 2004 when Matt Simmons published his book Twilight In The Desert. Most people I talk to either laugh it off/bury their head in the sand. Well I believe it's on the horizon now and is inexorably heading towards us.

Nuclear Fusion as a source of power to replace oil is, at current estimates at least two decades away, if ever. All other current forms of power have zero chance of filling the gap for 6 billion people. The Oil Drum can be a bit of a heavy read, but it's worth looking at.

But we are tackling the Oil problem, dont you see? :)

Flash is already on phase 2 of his master plan, namely "credit crunch".

Exports from China are already down 17%. Given that these exports are often plastic novelty earrings and the like, it stands to reason China will consume less Oil.

Also, once we all default on our phone bills, we will have no ability to ring these call centres...here and in India. Hence there will be a reduction in Oil demand from India too.

You have to hand it to Flash. It's a fiendishly cunning plan.

I never thought of that, and here's me ridiculing his 'save the world mantra':D

Your sarcasm would be somewhat more believable had the government not failed to invest in renewables whilst having agreed to a third runway at Heathrow.

I've already ordered my horse and cart for the next world order, post-crunch, from one 'Broon Transport Emporium'.

Except....I couldn't afford the horse, just a donkey.

Nay fear, the proprietor Gordon reassures me he can sort me out with a decent specimen. He says he knows a couple of 'asses' he works with he can redeploy.

We need to renew the position of Prime Minister. This crook is well past his peak.

The government doesn't "invest" in any source of power. It is undertaken by private companies. There has actually been quite a bit of investment, but unless oil prices rise substantially this going to be marginal.

Contrary to the OP points it seems that carbon prices, oil and gas prices are all pretty low at the moment.

'At the moment' is the correct phrase. That will change the instant the global economy tries to recover.

I'm crossing my fingers for a breakthrough in getting cheap sun and wind powered energy.
