Does Groom Make Speech at Weddings?
Comments

Hi
When Ive had to make speeches before, I find practising aloud in front of a mirror helpful.
It is tradition for the groom to make a small speech, but as stated before, its your wedding-so do what you want!
Good Luck

We've already agreed our wedding (which is a small family event during the day) will be 'no speeches'.
This is mainly because I can't think of a single person who wouldn't spend the whole day dreading the thought of having to make one
There is no such thing as what you 'have' to do in a wedding nowadays, it should be unique, personal and thoroughly enjoyable day!

I live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.0 -
Believe me, during the ceremony and everything else that goes on, your speech will be the last thing on your mind!
I did one at my wedding, and I'm not exactly a professional orator, but I threw in a few jokes, thanked the bridesmaids/ushers/bestman, gave presents and so on. When it came to it, I wasn't even really nervous (perhaps the wine had something to do with this  )
People don't expect that much from a Groom's speech anyway, it's the father of the bride and the bestman that have the tough time!0 -

My husband dreaded doing his speech from the moment we set a date for our wedding. We wrote it together pretty much and he practised it loads of times with me watching and on the day it went brilliantly!
The hitched website is great as it has loads of example speeches which have been rated by users.
My husband is going to be a best man in May and we've got lots of ideas from looking at other people's speeches. He's still dreading it though

the speeches at our wedding were pants! best man simply read out cards. dh said thanks for coming then stood there till i fished presents out for him to give out. my dad was funny but oh so embarrassing for me!! have been to 2 weddings where bride made the speech instead. basically as others said it's your day so if u don't want to speak then don't!! if u do decide to though don't forget to compliment your new wife, she won't let u live it down if u don't!! good luck & have a great day, we did, despite the speeches - they're really not that important!Cleaning the house while children are growing is like shovelling snow when it's still snowing!0

I have already spoke to the missus who said she would do it. I just thought I had better get something prepared just incase people are expecting me to say something.0

One way to look at it is that its the best audience you'll ever have & they'll all be right behind you. The father of the bride might only know half the people there & the best man might only know a few friends & close family but you'll know just about everybody out there & they'll all be happy for you on that day.
Its a few years since I got married, & I was a bit nervous about the speech beforehand. But once I stood up & saw my uncles & aunts over in one corner & my friends somewhere else, etc I realised it wasn't so scary because of the amount of support I had in the room.
Enjoy your day !! :beer:0 -
what people expect and what people get a wedding can differ.. get the mrs to do it and it will be remembered more and talked abt more as something different..Those we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
