How long does frozen meat keep?

ah well, i'd recommend sniffing it, meat can be made to look red in supermarkets through added preservatives as it's meant to be more appealing, but brown mince which smells normal is absolutely fine.
IMO meat can be frozen for ages, it may start to deteriorate in quality but its unlikely to go off as in rancid esp not after a month. i think the packaging gives you 6 months? i buy lamb by the 1/2 and we have some from a year ago frozen, it'll be absolutely fine. i won't say how long we've had other things in the freezer lol i'm particular about meat in the fridge as it will go off in there. freezing will preserve perfectly0 -
mince isnt off just because it isnt red.........i find freezing turns it grey but it tastes ok when cookedonwards and upwards0

Oooh I know why I binned it. There was mince blood on the outside of the packaging when I turned it over so there must have been a hole in the wrapper.
S'pose it's better to be safe......! :think:0 -
Meat only comes out of my freezer when it calls out to me! It possibly deteriorates but not so much that I've ever noticed, so it goes in until I use it - be it a week or a year.0

Hi
Just wondered of you could help me, I have found some braising steak in the back of my freezer, it was bought fresh in January and would have been frozen straight away, I just wondered is this still safe to eat do you think? I don't want to take any chances with it, would rather lose a couple of pounds then be ill;)
ThanksTrying to be frugal and sensible with my pennies.0 -
It won't make you ill. Food can't go off in the freezer. Its quality may have deteriorated though -not as flavourful or tender maybe. Definitely eat it;)0

Hi. On a similar note i found some salmon in the freezer which I can't remember putting there! Do you think the same applies the fish? Am tempted to give it to the moggies0
-
It won't do you any harm Katy, but I would think the quality will have suffered if it has been there a very long time. Try it and see.0
