As long as it was frozen ok etc it shouldn't harm you, defrost it, have a sniff, cook it and sniff again, if all is ok enjoy
Like Kaz said quality might not be perfect.
One day I might be more organised...........

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Agree - the taste and overall quality won't be top-notch, but it's perfectly edible.
Defrost, casserole/stew (any slow cooking method) and re-freeze. Chopped bacon can be added to any casseroled beef dish as it adds depth to the flavour.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
Can any1 help! I've found a rather expensive topside of beef in the freezer, Best before end date Dec 06, it says freeze on day of purchase (I did) and eat within 1 month, well the 1 month was a while ago! Is it still edible? My freezers pretty good, but can't perform miracles!
Can I cook this or not? What signs should I look for to say it's off?
Many thanxI'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0 -

Many thanx
It's highly unlikely to make you ill - once it's thawed, take a sniff and you should be able to tell if it's off.
The main risk is that it won't be as tender and tasty as a year ago, but I'd be more than happy to take the risk.

I agree with Penelope
the quality might be a little compromised, but otherwise should be ok0 -

As long as it it was frozen fresh it should be fine, i would have no problem giving it a go. As the other say give it a good sniff once its defrosted will soon tell you if its ok.Still TryingGrocery challenge July 2016

and if the sniff test proves ok, I would use it in some recipe that involves cooking the heck out of it - maybe potroasting it, giving it a good blast of heat at first then long slow cooking with lots of veg ! good luck" Baggy, and a bit loose at the seams.. I was clearing the chest freezer to make room for the turkey, when I discovered a frozen beef joint I bought for christmas dinner last year but got a turkey instead! This year I was going to cook both, so my question is this- will the beef (cook from frozen) be okay to eat even though Its a year old?
