it's worked for us...my daughter recommended me and we both got £50, I recommened a friend and we both got £50...I did transfer the money myself rather than waiting for them to sort things out.

Opened account for wife, non taxpayer, with max £250 into regular saver also on R85. Opened one for me at 0% and max overdraft I could get, £1000 it transpired. Transfered this money to her account where it earns 5% tax free. Will pay this back before year is up. Got 2 X £50 within 6 weeks of both accounts opening. Run both accounts off one log in even though they are separate account for each of us. Only transfer in £500 to each on SO from Barclays. Wife gets 5% on £250 in her current (up to £2500) and 10% on £250 transferred to her Regular. I transfer whole £500 straight back out to Barclays to cover SOs and DDs on this account later in month. Think A&L account is rubbish compared to say Nationwide apart from this. Also A&L now tell me max transfer out of all accounts in £1000/day unless to linked account when it is £25000. News to me! Going for 10% regular saver with Barclays tomorrow for her.
  • I have to say that my own experience with the Alliance & Leicester "Recommend a friend" offer has been faultless. Followed the necessary terms & conditions to the letter & both myself & my Mum received our £50 in 10 days. Bargain :T
I hope that others have the same experience.
  • I can recommend anyone and give £45 of the £50 I recieve back. That's £95 for you and £5 for me!
    PM me...
    Thanks.

No, but they don't send paper statements:
Internet access is required to get full benefit from this account and to view statements or see any changes to your terms and conditions.
And be carefull with sort code and account number: see posts #15 - #17 in A&L account thread.

To the orignal poster - We found the switch less than perfect.

Started the transfer in November 2005. In short, they made a total mess of transferring my direct debits - lost my mortgage Direct Debits in the process, so I refused to switch my salary until the mess was sorted.

When it was sorted, and my salary was paid in, they claimed I needed to put in TWO consecutive monthly salary payments before the £50 was paid. So come end of January 2006, two monthly payments had gone in.

They then claimed they never received the "recommend a friend" form, despite reading details from it out to me a couple of weeks earlier.

When we resubmitted a new form, then they stated my 8-week period had expired. So I hit the roof, complained in writing, and threatened to escalate it through both the financial ombudsman and trading standards, and needless to say, the £50 was credited soon after, but no apology or explanation as requested.

Therefore strongly recommend putting such a complaint in writing, and escalate it if necessary.

Still, the account has been running nicely now since then.

    Best of luck.

    Dave
