I think PPs menu is well balanced...carbs, protein and veg in one meal.
Anybody that thinks the meals are too stodgy must have been listening to Dr Gillian McKeith too much..oops she isn't a doctor is she.
It's good, wholesome, old fashioned cooking PP...keep up the good work X X0 -
I think penny pincher has at least a couple of different vegetables a day with the evening meal, encourages the eating of fruit as a dessert, and has fruit juice at breakfast.
A lot of the meals she makes are traditional family food which she knows that they will all enjoy and actually eat.
As my daughters are older and have a bit more sophisticated tastes I can now make meals like sweet potato and red pepper burgers or veggie egg fried rice with about six different vegetables in it.
My youngest is 13 so sometimes she has a different meal to her older sisters but will now try more things.
There is a lot of difference in cooking what you know will be eaten, not wasted, for a family and trying to live up to the latest advice on "healthy eating" which is constantly changing."This site is addictive!"

I agree PP's menu is all home-cooked foods with fruit & veggies. Really dont see what your problem is??0

With all that stodgy processed food they would need it!Cute 'n' Quirky
I can't see much processed food in those menus - oven chips and maybe mushy peas (don't really know what they contain). Yorkshire puddings contain milk and eggs and who knows what goes into a homemade lasagne - could be mainly veg.
What sort of meal plans do you have/consider healthy then?0 -
Sticher
Mushy peas are dried peas which are soaked in water overnight and when they are rinsed and cooked they go "mushy".
As far as the oven chips are concerned - for all we know she might be making them herself - certainly they would be lower in fat than fried ones."This site is addictive!"

I make absolutely everything I can from scratch unless it works out cheaper to buy them from the supermarket. I find bread is cheaper to buy than make but I suppose it depends on what kind of bread you like. We have breakfast, lunch and dinner and pudding every day. I make my own ice cream, cakes etc. Steamed puddings are a cheap and easy way of giving a pudding.
Spending so little just comes naturally to me as I have never really had a lot of money to play with. In fact, the amount I spend seems like a lot to me!!!!

Maybe those who care to comment on other peoples weekly main meals would like to show theirs, for comparison to exchange ideas. I am sure many would be interested in Cute n Quirky's meal plans etc as a person who manages on a low income (sorry just remember a thread saying you were in receipt of income support, mobility vehicle etc on the other parts of the forum)One day I might be more organised...........
