I was handed one of these cards on my doorstep yesterday by a smartly dressed Eastern European man. I've looked them up, which is how I found this thread. They are now using the same cards but with a distributor called

    RTS SERVICES (UK) LTD
    RTS House
    Longleys Road
    Lincoln
    LN1 1DX

    Tel: 01522 306128

A Google search found the following:
Registered Number: 06876561 - Registered at Companies House on 14/04/2009
    Type of business: Unknown
    Address: CHIKARA HOUSE LONGLEYS ROAD
    LINCOLN
    LN1 1DX

A search on Google maps shows what looks like a private house opposite a builders merchants.

I received one of these prize draw tickets last week. I subsequently received a phone call to say that I'd 'won' a bottle of carpet cleaner -which would be given to me after I'd watched a carpet-cleaning demo.

I explained that I don't have any carpets - I'm laminated throughout. The caller then suggested that I could watch my 3-piece suite being cleaned. I explained that I had a two-week-old navy-blue leather suite. So that was that ...

    Or was it?

... Actually I still want the bottle of carpet cleaner that I apparently 'won' quite legitimately. There's nothing on the card to say that only people with carpets and fabric-covered furniture can be winners. So I've written to the firm to ask when I can expect my prize (along with a vague hint about trading standards issues!)

I'm a tad sadistic - I just love watching uninvited guests being mauled by my four large over-friendly dogs! :rotfl:

lmao! I bet you could sell tickets for viewing that!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • Thanks to this thread, i just stopped myself making a tit of myself and going for an interview with these guys.

I actually had an interview 15 years ago when i was looking for work and although offered the job, declined. Me and the interviewer had a big row about the market being saturate-able if the product had *that* long-a-life span but was that expensive.
Anyway, long story short is that they are currently flooding the job ads with the wording below - I'll put it in here so if anyone else googles the wording or telephone number, they'll at least be able to find it they'll just be selling vacuums.

"FACTORY OUTLET HAS 22 OPENINGS F/T, permanent. Delivery, sales + trainee management. Full company training provided £1000-£1800 p/m for those who qualify. Call 01522 512797 for interview"

Not spam but mods amend as neccessary - i just don't want other people wasting their time

At £1295 the OP got a bargain. Kirbys were regularly sold for £1200-£1500 after negotiaton 25 years ago.

At the end of the day Kirby seem to have acted very reasonably in refunding the hoover with no problems what so ever. You don't know what kind of tactics were used and they weren't to know her medical conditions when selling her the hoover. You should be happy that they dealt with the matter hastle free.

It's not a "Hoover", "Hoover" is a registered trade mark of Hoover. The slang usage may be appropriate in casual conversation but not here where it may cause problems for the forum.

What "Slang" usage? Hoover has been used, and understood as a generic term for longer then I have been alive, and is in the dictionary as such.

I don't think anyone would get confused by the term.

It's still a trademarked name of a company who make electrical goods including vacuum cleaners. given that this is a thread about unsavoury selling practices by one manufacturer, using the brand name of another manufacturer however much the name is 'slang' is probably inadvisable.

I think she's felt embarrassed about it hence hasn't told anyone but also feels responsible for buying it, she's old school.

This bit I find infuriating. I wish sometimes that the people who are young enough to know better developed a bit of this old school backbone and took responsibility for their actions, rather than shouting "con" and "scam" when they get caught out by their own mistakes.

And at the same time I wish that people like your gran dropped a little bit of their pride and admitted to themselves that they're not as sharp as they once were and need to allow themselves to be helped every now and again. Grr.

Still I'm glad you got it sorted in the end.
