Sammy-I know we could do it.

i really did sound like a miserable old bag in my earlier post about kilimonjaro didn't i?!

it wasn't meant to make me sound like a negative nellie!

That decision is in your hands hun, it's more about you saying 'this is the end' rather than 'hoping' it's the end.
You're right - I suppose what I mean by that is that I hope I continue to feel like it's the end.

I told him he had taken what was a happy memory and made it feel dirty and sordid and sleazy. I really hope he never comes near me again. And I hope that if he does, I have the strength not to reply. :o

    Well,
I had a brief look online as tbh, I know it's a massive undertaking but one I would be prepared to do the work for-I am by no means unaware of the risks involved etc.

I have requested info from a company that does the charity treks-it's £495 to enter and you have to raise £3500. I said to Sammy this morning that we really would need at least a year to sort it out-fund raising and training etc.

Like Hypno said-if you want to do it, you just have to train! I couldn't run a mile in Oct but did 3 the other day...baby steps and all that.

I mentioned it to DH and he was all for it!

Snags my friend-I feel like crying with you and I so SO hope you stay strong. It hurts me as a friend to see you so down and deflated. The amounts of times you listened to me cry this past year...well I feel like I need to be doing more for you.

Ouch thats a lot of money to raise...have you thought about just saving up the money?? If its going to take you a year anyway...just a thought though!

These guys arent cheap (at all) but you get an idea of what you would pay without sponsorship:

a year is about right for the fundraising. At my last job, a couple of my friends took part in a walk the wall of china for the work's charity and they had to raise around the same amount. One did other 'physical' stuff like cycling long distances/running half marathons and was sponsored in them and then added that all up as the year progressed. Another did raffles, events etc.

Using ebay would be a good way to get some money - there is a huge selling for charity area on ebay it would be good to read up on and then sell bits and pieces on there to raise some money.

The only thing that didn't work was a dinner/dance. Hard work to organise and hardly any tickets sold , weeks and weeks or work for very little return. I've seen a couple go belly up over the years.

A success we had at work was approaching loads of TV shows/celebs etc for signed stuff and it was then auctioned off. There was tonnes of stuff. Soaps etc, TV chefs, scripts from drama shows signed etc.

Also, try approaching businesses - a huge circular to all local companies may get you a couple of donations - I've always found Barclays and Asda to be helpful on a local level, but remember they get loads of requests every day, i used to be on the receiving end when I worked in cable TV locally.

It's a huge commitment time wise but my sister has done Spain, Cuba, various walks, runs, cycles for charity and this is her current challenge

She was then contacted a couple of weeks ago for a feature piece in one of the weekly mags - something like Take A Break who saw it in the paper. If you can get a unique angle on it and then approach your local papers you may get some money that way although my sister has only raised £229 so far from it being in 2 publications!

this is her current progress from her website - tired just reading it!!

bunny is that £495 and £3500 each or 450 each and £3500 between you,
and i see what your getting at about the training it should be fine , if you take it slowly an not try to rush it i mean aim for the climb in about 12/18 months time.
do you have to purchase your own equipment???
If we can put a man on the moon...how come we cant put them all there?

    Happy Birthday Maz!!:kisses3:

Not read the thread yet, and I am definitely going to bed in a few minutes!

Are some of you thinking of doing Kilimanjaro as a Charity Challenge? Make sure that you select a trip that takes its time to go up! Some say that they can do it all in 4 days.........thats the ones which get problems with altitude sickness, a days rest at 8000 feet or so is needed to get acclimatised.
I did a Charity climb ( Vesuvius, Etna and Stromboli ) for Dogs for the Disabled a couple of years ago and looked in to Kili as a privately arranged climb for this year, therefore only taking £1400 or so out of the funds raised rather than £2500 with a Fundraising Co which use the same Tour Companies anyway.
    Sorry for rabitting on!
    :D:D stay wonky :D:D

....one-way ticket to Portugal booked !
