Smile are very good but not so good at sending me my voucher for the free wine they promised me when I opened the account.
Cahoot are good provided you want straight forward banking and dont need to query anything.
First Direct were crap about 10 years ago and such an ordeal if you wanted to increase your overdraft. Pain in the back side. However the operators have lots of personality and very friendlly.

I have held accounts with all three.

Alliance & Leicester are in the UK. But they have an 0870 number

Don't forget that 9 times out of 10 you can get alternatives to 0870 numbers by going to https://www.saynoto0870.com - it's totally brilliant, and highly recommended!

  • All Hbos is in UK (Halifax, Bank of scotland, IF) ect

    08457 numbers
  • I have found Natwest to be excellent. English call centre and very responsive to any calls I have made.

They have also been brilliant with my mortgage. I have been on a discounted rate with them ever since I took it out and every time the renewal time comes around they contact me with another offer and it always beats what he competition offer me! :j

first direct best i have been with .
  • I've found Alliance & Leicester are very good for UK call centres. Have always spoken to a friendly person from their Liverpool call centre. You also have no need to pay the charge for their 0845 number as they have an alternative geographical 01132541566 number (3p one off charge with 1899) :T
