Highly rated in the industry for mid-high net worth customers.
Good level of policy cover and a very fair approach to claims. I believe their in house staff carry a cheque book on claims visits and will issue a cheque up to £10,000 there and then if the claim is agreed.
I work in the industry (not for Hiscox) and insure with them0 -
Hiscox have one of the highest reputations for offering wide cover and an exceptional claims service on home insurance. They deal with the high end of the market and provide the type of cover a discerning customer who buys expensive things expect from their home insurer.
As Matty said they will normally settle claims up to £10000 their and then and aim to be at your home the same or next day after a claim.
Unlike normal home insurers they allow you to replace an item through the normal channels you buy from so if you bought a ring from Harrods they would pay you what it costs to replace it at Harrods.
It really is a great policy, other companies who offer similar policies are Oak and Chubb, I only wish I was in the position to need and be able to afford a Hiscox Policy!
I do not work for Hiscox ever, however these types of policies are one of my favourite to sell as they really do deliver the goods if you have a claim.0 -
Probably the most highly regarded general insurance companies out there.
If there was a definition of getting what you pay for with regards to quality, then they would surely be up there with the best.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). You say that but I'm not in the high net worth category. house is insured for around £170k and contents for around £70k iirc. Premium is around £400 pa with a £250 xs.
Direct Line / More Than etc were similar for premium but with a £50 excess.
Give me the Hiscox policy anyday and I'll carry the £250 uninsured part myself.0 -
I agree with Matty and Dunstonh totally, we all keep telling posters you get what you pay for when you buy cheap insurance well with Hiscox you actually do get what you pay for but in a good way.
Its a shame people shopped on price alone as if they did not normal insurers could start to offer SOME parts of the service Hiscox offer.0 -
I think that if you are insuring with Hiscox, you will not go far wrong. In both the broker and insurer stakes, these are probably the best companies for home insurance in the mid to high net worth arena (not in any particular order):
Chubb
Hiscox
Sterling
Home & Legacy
Oak
All the above usually have a minimum premium but if you are paying in the region of £450 already for your insurance you are probably approaching their entry level. Some of them have strage set-ups with other companies; LTSB, Barclays, Occado all use one or more of the above to provide cover as part of a panel.
My personal favourite is the broker Home & Legacy. They were a well established company in their own right with a good reputation before they were purchased by Allianz (Cornhill) and they have access to all the mid/high net worth home insurances as well as some very good mini-fleet policies (insure you whole family on the same policy!). They have the advantage of in-house claims teams to settle smaller (less than £5k) losses before the claim even goes as far as the insurer.
Before you ask, I don't work for any of the above and am only expressing my opinion!! I'm not currently insured with any of the above but have been in the past.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
I'm an average Joe living in an Average house with average possessions so I'll see what they quote !Thanx folks.Never skimp on Shoes,Tea bags and fishing tackle!0

If you fit their criteria then good luck to you, be aware that they will not be the cheapest by a long way but if you ever need to claim you will see why they are more expensive.0

So refreshing to see a thread focus on quality rather than absolute minimum cost.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
