Yeah, I'm gonna cut out the first one whether the OH likes it or not, To be honest I can not stand weddings. I do feel a bit guilty as I used to be best mates with the guy in question. I got at the OH tonight about the other 2 weddings and she says she is doing extra hours and going to transfer the extra to a savings account so it won't impact our current income, so things might not be so bad, well all things considering, I'd still rather not go at all, I can't stand that bloody Irish country and western that seems to be played at all the weddings over here, Anyone for some Joe Dolan? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Totally agree with this. I am not bothered about presents anyway. It would mean so much more to have who we wanted there on the day anyway. Just explain that things are bit tight. You could always make a voucher like a day painting/decorating a room or something.
And me! I didn't know people even spent that much on wedding presents. I would be really sad to think people weren't coming because they couldn't afford a gift on top of their travel expenses. If money is tight just spend what you can afford. In the past I've made up little food hamper (well, gift bags) gifts of posh bits of food from delis, spent about £15.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

So she is happy to do extra hours so she can throw £200+ at her brother & SiL2B's wedding - would she do it to help the two of you get married?2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

No, but to be fair there is the whole religious thing over here, both from different religions. We live together, we have kids together, we may aswell be married.BTW who's paying for the dress?
Probably all of us who pay tax:rolleyes:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Wedding present - towel cake - everyone needs towels and even with really good quality towels you can spend as much or as little as you want. I did one for £30 and I did another for £25 including champagne.
When I got married we weren't fussed about gifts, we just wanted to share our day with our loved onesIf my typing is pants or I seem partcuarly blunt, please excuse me, it physically hurts to type. :wall: If I seem a bit random and don't make a lot of sense, it may have something to do with the voice recognition software that I'm using!0 -
I think £200 is really extravagant for a wedding present. Unless you are rolling in dosh (which you obviously are not). The thought of spending that kinda money on a present for anyone is obscene and I would not want anyone spending that on me. You can find some really nice gifts or hampers for about £50.
Tha champagne idea is a good one and even if you splashed out on a very nice bottle it will still come to under £50.
I think your OH and you will have to put your creative caps on. There are hundreds of gifts out there for £20+ that are far from tacky and would be more than suitable. And don't forget a card, shows that effort was taken - even if a gift is not given.I have learned that success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has had to overcome while trying to succeed. Plus - you could do something REALLY nice for them, like say, redecorate their bedroom or make them an amazing meal without spending lots of cash.0

Why dont you sign up to as much surveys, mystery shopping etc, sell stuff you dont need on Ebay, gumtree etc, but cheap food and save for the wedding. You obviously need and deserve a night out. If you dont think you can do that, just dont go to the first 2 and save for the 3rd but dont pay £200 for a present. Thats insane.
Edit - TK MAXX - Theres really nice stuff in there that you would get away with giving xx0/2013
