Concerned about new Electricity Bill
Comments
-
It’s electric only...we don’t have gas in the flat. We have underfloor heating in two of the rooms but the main living room has a convector heater.
The heating system doesn't sound particularly efficient.
Assuming you have done all the things, checked bill, read meter, checked meter serial number (meters are regularly 'crossed' in flats) then there is not much else you can do but pay up. If you have econ 7 try to adapt to it (wash clothes / dishes overnight) and take the usually energy saving advice.
Bare in mind you don't have a gas bill as well!

Yeah, thats fairplay- going to speak to them tonight and check it all but will obviously pay it up if thats the case. Just seems a lot higher this year than last year, for example but then I haven't kept my eyes out for the pricerises that much....that'll be something to work on.0

I’ve looked at the details of the bill and what concerns me is that 2/3 of the bill is covered under the ‘day’ section of the bill. Now we both work full-time in the daytime 5 times a week so I don’t see how the daytime usage can be so high...if anything, the night-time should be higher surely?
It makes sense to me that your daytime use is so high because you are using your heating then. Economy 7 works best for storage heaters that use energy overnight. If you are on Econ 7, your daytime units are more expensive than they would be on a normal tariff, so your heating will be even more expensive. If only a third of your electricity is used at night, you would almost certainly be better off getting rid of Economy 7. Basically you are paying extra for your electricity for 17 hours a day to have cheap electricity for seven hours when you're asleep.
To cut your bills further, cutting back on the heating (spring soon!) is the quickest way to make big savings.0
