Concerned about new Electricity Bill

Hi all. Me and my housemate live in a 2bed apartment in the city centre and have recently received a new bill from UU for £300 for 3 months use! This seems highly extortionate and in fact, is double what we paid last time for the previous 3 months and higher than anything that we have previously paid in the 2 years that we have been there.

I’ve looked at the details of the bill and what concerns me is that 2/3 of the bill is covered under the ‘day’ section of the bill. Now we both work full-time in the daytime 5 times a week so I don’t see how the daytime usage can be so high...if anything, the night-time should be higher surely? The communal cupboard for all the apartments contains the meters but the bill indicates that they’re not estimates. It just seems to make no sense to me....

Have the costs really gone up that much? I’m quite concerned :S

If you have electric night storage heaters (and if you don't why are you on E7) then your night usage should normally be higher than your day one.
If you do not heat by electric then day use should be higher than night ,despite the fact you both work. This is because the day rate lasts for 17 hours whilst the night one is only 7 hours, and those 7 are in the dead of night, usually after midnight.

Daytime (on E7 tariffs) does not end until past midnight. Do you use much power in the middle of the night? Do you have storage heaters?

Why would you not expect to pay double (or more) over a cold winter quarter?

Is it gas or electric, what type of heating do you have, do you have radiators?

It’s electric only...we don’t have gas in the flat. We have underfloor heating in two of the rooms but the main living room has a convector heater.

I too have a 2 bed flat and I spend £45 gas £45 elec per month so £100 overall seems reasonable to me, esp as electric heating will cost more than gas.

Mate I was shocked at our first elec bill, 1 bed flat in city center, £300 for 3 months!
If your on Economy 7 and have normal wall heaters, its going to be around £100 per month. I'm anoyed as you are! Were with Scotish Power and customer service said 28units a day is average for a 1 bed flat! Rubbish!!
