There is no need for a licence to use a radio.
To the original OP, I know it was back in February,
No you don't need a TV licence, and you don't need to let the scum in through the door if they call. You would need to unplug the skybox and store it away somewhere. As long as there is no transmitted signals going into your TV you don't need a licence.
You can watch dvd and videos without a licence, and they can be recorded off another TV and it's still ok.0 -

I agree with wig, also the only way TVLicensing can bring a proper prosecution is by actually watching you through a window watchng TV, the actual detectors are only used for preliminary research to see if you have radio signals eminating from your property so that they can make the next step and send an officer round.0

I'd recommend not even doing that! Why go to all that bother when you can legitimately use the Sky box to listen to digital radio?
Leave it connected I say, and enjoy the choice of about a hundred radio stations. Unfortunately because the Sky box doesn't have an LED display telling you what station you're tuned in to you'll need to hook it up to some kind of monitor (hmm, a TV for instance!)0
