Lounge at the front or back?

Our first house had the lounge at the back an our present house has the lounge at the front. The house that I would like to be out next house has the lounge sort at the side, but it goes into the garden, so for the sake of argument, I would say that it's at the back.
Just wondered whether people have a preference for having their loung/living room at the front or the back of the house?

I love giving home made gifts, which one of my children would you like?

BackMine is the back (& has a window to the side as well).
I prefer it to the back, leading out to the garden.0 -
My mums is at the back and leads on to the garden and its lovely. Mine is at the front but I live in a flat so I suppose its makes no difference if it was front or back:oFinally, I can see you crystal clear0

BackI've voted back, however, if the house had a good kitchen/family room combination at the back with space to eat, relax and doors to garden then that would also do me fine.....0

BackDepends on which way the house is facing really. In our old house the house faced north and the living room was in front so it barely got any light at all during the day.
In the house that we are buying now, the house faces east and the lounge is in the back so we should get a lot of lovely light in the afternoon. It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
Depends too much on the road the house is on, the views and the direction the rooms face.0

BackI've voted back, but I've lived in terraces for a few years, and don't like someone walking along the street looking in and seeing us watching TV. In our new house, the lounge is at the front, but there's a large garden between the footpath and the house, so it doesn't bother me.I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent:rolleyes:0

I live on an estate where bedrooms are downstairs, living rooms/kitchen upstairs - on a hill - so you get a better view of the sea-lochs and mountains...Wisdom is the daughter of experience0

It depends what's outside the front door I guess.
My folks live in a end terrace with a small, walled garden so although it was originally a two up, two down you don't step straight from the street into the front room.
The house we're buying is a middle terrace but in a mews (houses face each other across front gardens with a communal path running up) so there's no problems with people walking past the window. However, the back room is large with french windows so we've decided to decorate the front room for a winter living room, and also put a cast iron fireplace in the back room with an assortment of chairs in front of it so we can enjoy the view of the garden when the days are longer.
The only thing that would make me definately use the back room as my living room would be if there were a lot of noise directly outside the window.0 -
Don't mindIf the house is on a quiet street where nothing ever happens, then I'd prefer the lounge at the back.
If it's a city centre or on a busy street, then I'd prefer it at the front so I can see what's going on outside!! I do enjoy a bit of curtain twitching!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
We have a north facing living room at the front, open plan through to the dining room which goes out to the garden
Great in the summer it stays very cool.
Also easier to keep the light levels down for movie watching.0
