They reinstated it in my own case and in lots of other people here on these boards..

want to send a link instead of blank promises? Pointless saying something without proof to back it - if you do then i'll apologise as appropriate but you can't because they have the one strike and you're out rule.
You must be one of the 1% I mentioned then.... small proportion really. Also, just cos they done it for you doesn't mean they will for OP - you know MBNA, they are a joke (don't you think?)
It is in black and white - pointless fighting it!

Here's a thread where 3 people got the 0% deal reinstated:

Those who have advised give them a call do so because we have seen the same story so many times and have seen the feedback where peeps have had it reinstated.0 -

Thanks for this, but the same is posed as to those whom have been refused. Also, on the thread you linked to, see the first to win #13 - note the date was 3 years ago! In fact they are all from Jan 2006!
Things are sooooo different now to then! Sorry, my point sands. DO NOT BE HONEST!
Its a gamble whatever he does. Also, a thread with 3 successes doesn't look good compared to a thread with over 3,000 negatives.

As ---lee--- points out there are several threads here where Virgin/MBNA have reinstated 0% deals in the past.
The worst thing the OP can do regardless of whether he gets his 0% back is refuse to make further payments as according to the first post, he has had several such deals from various lenders - if he does, then his credit file will be affected.. and he will struggle to get any such deals in future.
Its always worth asking if they will reinstate the deal - if not, than the OP can pay interest for the time it takes for him to apply for another deal and/or pay the card off
Its true they may be getting stricter due to the credit crunch but I would be very suprised that they now refused 99% of all requests..
It also sounds as if the OP has made this mistake before with various lenders - they are all now less forgiving.. and the OP would be better off setting up a direct debit at the same time he applies for any card in future..

For something more recent - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=831839 though its just an example as I have little interest in searching old threads!

Hi
Thanks for post - thats a more realistic plan and I agree entirely with you. I just think sometimes people assume being honest pays, i've read loads on CAG saying they have been refused and it seems a normal thing now.... maybe they are just being strict to protect themselves and to be fair, missing your first payment aint exactly setting a good example now is it!
Regards to newer thread link you posted, again last year (2008) things weren't as bad as they are now, so again it is still too old to compare. Try and find someone in 2009, thats the problem - there aren't many! I cant be bothered searching old links either TBH.... lol, lets agree to the principles and let the OP do what he feels is best for him, in his personal case.

IMO all OP can do is grovel, DD foul up. The CC environment changed last Autumn, increased APR, lowered credit limits etc.
Regards leaving £10k debt by transferring, what chance do others think s/he has of opening another 0% bal tx card with current (post late-payment) credit rating?0 -
Im confused by references to the consumer credit act. Surely if they are required to notify me of banking charges within X days, this is not the same as setting out the banking charges in the T&Cs when I open the account?0

OK Everyone, a complete success story here!!
I just called Virgin and they have reinstated the deal, refunded 2 late payment fees and refunded the interest charged. No questions asked. I didn't even have to get irrate.
As recommended I claimed the dd should have been set up and that I had been away, hence I had not read the statements. Basically do not play the honest guy card and do not admit any fault. Although this isn't really my style, honesty clearly does not always pay and to take on the big boys you've got to play them at their own game.
Only thing to watch out for I have to check my Experian account now and get any missed payment flags off there now Virgin/MBNA have accepted blame.
Thanks everyone for your time and advice.
