    Ideas folks please

My stepmother has asked I make a speech at my father's 75th birthday party next month, now the problem I have is I don't really know my father.

At 7 I got sent to boarding school
At 10 my parents got divorced,
My last contact with him was aged 10 until I was 38.
So now a few years on, I suppose I see him about twice a year or so, I am at a complete lost as to what to say, as I have 'no growing' up type tales or any thing similar.

    Help what do I say

    GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRR

I have one more load of washing to do....I went upstairs to check on DD and she had decided to clean her rug with a glass of water, she has had 50p confiscated from her earnings(not for trying to clean the rug but for having he glass in the bedroom when she has been told numerous times to use the water bottle she has up there for a drink), the rug is stinking and I have had to put a towel on the bedroom floor as the wre was so much water the carpet is wet as well!!!!!

Focus on what you DO know - make it witty, make it a celebration of his life. Do you have brothers and sisters or relatives you can ask for anecdotes? Conclude with asking everyone to raise their glass to celebrate the milestone

Kaz I guess your SM is aware of what you have just shared with us? Is anybody else making a speech? If not could you concentrate on his hobbies or working life? Hard call.

Not planning on doing much more today as I'm yawning away. I need to convince 'luke skywalker' that it is time to get ready for bed.

Why are you starting at the beginning? It's the hardest place to start! Write the rest of it and then go back to do the introduction and it'll be MUCH easier!

Books now in from garage, lunch & breakfast prepared, and supper cooking...

I'd say something along the lines that you've recently discovered each other after a number of years without each other. That even though some parents get to spend a lot of time with their offspring this hasn't happened for you two but it doesn't change the fact that he is your Dad and always will be and you love him lots. Then stick a joke in like 'I've bought you you're favourite chocolate, this is your favourite chocolate right?', :D

Had tea, cleared up, ordered vacuum cleaner bags.;)
