I love my baking but am quite lazy & mix my cake mixtures in my food processor. Its had a good life as it was free with a catalogue promotion some years ago.
So I need a new one & also want some recommendations. There are lots out there with attatchments, but are they any use.
Also was just flicking through the Argos book & noticed hand mixers.
Thought they look good for beating egg whites & again the cake mixtures. There is a very cheap one for £4.99. Are these any good or would just a food processor do the job.
My oven broke the other day, baking isn't being very OS atm

I love my stick blender, i use it for my cakes, breadcrumbs, mixing batter for pancakes/yorshire puds etc. I do use my kenwood when i makes soups as you can blend more, but if you are only making smaller portions, then the hand blender would prob be fine!!!!0

I've got a stick blender. The hand mixer is like beaters, if that makes sense!

You will have to get it to stop. It is bad for its healt and the Government won't let you take it out in a few years.
Sorry couldn't resist.

Lisa get the hand mixer, you'll never regret it. Mine has more than made up for it's £5 costOrganised people are just too lazy to look for things

My food processor packed up over five years ago and I've yet to replace it. I have an old fashioned electric hand mixer and it is great. I use it for:
Mixing batters and beating cake and sponge mixes
Making soft dough stuff like dumplings
All sauces including custard and HM gravy
Whipping cream and egg whites
Rubbing fat into flour when pastry making or for crumble
Mashing potatoes, swede and parsnips
Binding small qty of heavy stuff like fruit cake (use big Ken for mass baking)
I've even used it for rough pureeing soups when I can't be bothered to get my big ken and blenda out.
My hand mixer is about 30 years old and originally had a stand and bowl. It has three pairs of attachments.
General Beaters
Whipping Rings
Dough Hooks
I had a stick blenda for Christmas or maybe Birthday just gone and it lasted about three weeks before I threw it to the bottom of the garden - RUBBISHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -

There is a more expensive one with the whipping rings & dough hooks, are they very useful?

TBH you can whip egg whites and cream perfectly well with the regular beaters. The dough hooks are great for heavy mixtures like fruit cake, Christmas Pudding and for mixing proper stuffing with sausage meat or meatloaf/balls.
If I was buying a new one I would get regular beaters and dough hooks. HTHLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0
