CCLEANER will dump the contents of the bin anyways. Though I def' agree with lowering the 'system restore' size

If you wish to remove Norton use the removal tool ~
    Norton removal tool http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

And use AVIRA in its place
Download AVIRA ANTI VIRUS PERSONAL (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/

Be an idea to run HIJACK too so we can see what you ARE running ~
Download HIJACK THIS (Make sure you click 'DOWNLOAD LATEST VERSION')
    http://www.filehippo.com/download_hijackthis/
SCAN and post the log so we can see whats running
(do NOT do anything else with Hijack but scan and post the FULL log)

K so today i started it up, quicker than normal which is a bonus, but still took forever in my eyes. Tried Norton scan again but it stalled on Spyware.Netscreen Watch or something on 5236 files which is oddly less than yesterday's stall, so i just cancelled it.

Is there any point compressing the drive?? Did this on my old pc and it did make a diff but on this with vista am not sure if its worth it, especially as I just started it and already the free space has gone down to 1.92gb!! Am beginning to think that was a mistake lol. Shall i let it run its course or just cancel it now, espesh as the time its taking is changinag all the time from 1 day 23 hours to 14 days to 12 hours??

Something else you can try to squeeze a bit more space: right click on your recycle bin, and go to properties and adjust the amount of space reserved for it.

The default is 10%, so it'll be hogging 4 GB of your HDD.

You can do the same with System Restore in System Properties. It reserves 12% by default, which is almost 5 GB of your HDD.

Have tried the recycle bin bu cant for the life of my find where i can adjus the space, not in any tabs or any advanced option menus?!

    Thanks again guys!!

I'll def do the Hijack, am a bit iffy about taking norton off cos i'll have the "what a waste of money" blah blah (even though its not my laptop i still have to hear it:rolleyes:), but am tempted only cos it's making my trying to fix it way harder than it needs to be.

Do you use AVIRA alone or run it with any other security software? I only use Avast on my laptop aside from a few scans here and there and that seems to be fine for me, but basically the simplest and best software I can find the better if i'm taking norton off- they're not the best with technology despite them asking someone who's equally un-savvy to try and fix it!

Id always advise scanning with MALWAREBYTES and SUPERANTISPYWARE as a precaution as nothing is 100% safe

Have just used Treesize but it didnt tell me much, Free space: 2gb (of 32gb). It had 8gb on the C drive all of it in the following files:
    *Program files
    *N360_BACKUP
    *MSOCache
    *Boot
*and in 3 random long numbered files totalling 9mb

Think this may have been the reason the above is so little maybe, it says "access is denied" on the System Volume Information folder:confused:
