Hang on just a moment there............ He was chancelor for approx 10 yrs and PM for the rest, who else is to blame?? wake up and smell the coffee, im not anti Brown or anti Labour if someone cocks up big time you resign thats what people use to do, "fall on the sword" it doesn,t happen any more they will do anything to cling on to the gravy train..........What you have written and acused people of is utter rubbish ........ this isn,t party political this is fact of life ......Now he,s even got the nerve to suggest he was calling for more regulation of the banks 18 months ago.. woopy bloody doo.........

YOU ARE NOT LISTENING (reading) PROPERLY. Is this thread about "who's to blame"? No, it's not. It's about a specific statement the PM has made.

Stop projectile vomiting your anti-Brown crusade statement at every opportunity. You're entitled to feel the way you do, but there's a time and a place. What's more, we've already had a "who's to blame?" thread, and while many did blame the PM, a significant minority believed the blame to lie elsewhere. So your position remains an opinion, not a universally acknowledged truth.

So how was my 1st post NOT about the topic? try reading it again.

Im NOT on an "anti Brown crusade" I do have a problem with MP,s in general, im anti "snouts in troughs" the hypocracy, the deceit, the over inflated ego,s the "dont do as I do do as I say" crap we get from them.......Im sorry if that upsets you.:D

If I was walking past parliament and was approached by a masked man holding a large black orb with a lighted sparkler sticking out of the top and with "BOMB" written on it asking the way to the "House of commons" I would gladly show him the way....

Point is there are lots of culpable parties - from the UK & US public, to credit rating agencies etc. etc. however, Brown was Chancellor, the only person to have more legislative power was Tony Blair. He simply cannot throw up his hands and claim innocence.

Also the way that Labour has dropped their former best friends (e.g. Crosby; Goodwin etc.) is quite cheap really.

This is ridiculous, the man's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. If he'd said exactly the opposite, i.e. we're going to leave the regulatory landscape as it is, the very same people would be out here, throwing the same abuse.

Admit it, you're all here with your anti-Brown agenda, ready to hijack any thread remotely related to the PM. The headline could have read "Brown saves 7 drowning babies" and you'd still be out with your pitchforks, frothing at the mouth like a pack of dogs.

If you don,t like a particular programme on TV you have the choice of turning over and not watching it, so why post on this thread, it clearly upsets you, I don,t agree with Rochdale Pioneer most of the time, but I don,t trash the chaps views. This thread is about how Brown is intending to regulate the banking system, it IS fair to post my view on HIS faliure to regulate the banks for the last 11 yrs...
  • Surely the last thing that Gordon Brown can do is resign? Imagine the charges of 'wimping out'/cowardice etc that would be flung against him. The one thing he could do would be to go to the Country, but I don't think he can or even should, resign.

For my own view, I believe that a change of Government is required. It's bad for a democracy to keep one party in for too long. People get arrogant and complacent which can lead to a sense of invincibility and corruption. So, on that count, I would be glad for a general election. There is more chance of a change in Government if Gordon Brown stays in.

I'm sure he's hoping for some green shoots before he goes to the Country, however. Remember Bill Clinton saying 'It's the economy, stupid' on his re-election. At least Bill Clinton understood the way things are.

It's all carp from Brown. He is surrounded by ex-City types, and as he was gullible enough to give Banks billions unconditionally, he has left this a bit late. We all know that the whole system was rotten, but everybody is just blaming somebody else, and barring a few high-profile Directors, most of the same individuals are running things. The tough talk is to deflect blame away from himself, we will get a few more announcements, some form of inquiry, then end up with some half-baked and ineffective self-regulation plan.

Presiding over, even encouraging, the banks' reckless destruction of our economy is bad enough. Using public money to underwrite this catastrophe, and thereby condemn future generations to a life of poverty is totally unforgiveable and amounts to treason.

Brown and his imbecilic cohorts should rot in gaol.

Apparently half of Britain's top bankers (apparently they would describe themselves as such) are threatening to leave the country if their bonuses are capped.

Well, good luck to them. I'll be first to wave them off.

Where do they think they'll go? Who on earth wants our failed bankers?

No-one's indispensable. Let's hope we can have a good clear out of the dead wood.

Sadly, some of the overseas banks mght be edgy too. Its not good. Clearing the banker dead wood is one thing, chasing off banks that could be useful is another. We're waiting with baited breath to see how Obama's fairly protectionaist announcments re American jobs/workers etc actually play out.

Share price of a pharmaceutical company I have an interest in has crashed because of Obama saying that drug prices will be reduced.
