Brown Promises Banking Clear Up

Gordon Brown has reiterated his call for a clean-up of the financial system to ensure what he called "banking responsibility" in the UK and abroad.
He said: "Our task must be nothing less than to rebuild a financial system where it has failed, and then to create an economy in which banks are no longer serving themselves but are serving the public of this country." Mr Brown said that "somehow" the financial world had lost sight of ordinary people's values, such as fairness and hard work.

I thought that was what they were going to do nearly 12 years ago.How long do they need?. !!!!!!
Is it too much to ask for that !!!!!! broon to do what we ALL want ,for him to lead by example and "fall on his sword", if he had an ounce of courage thats what he would do. Its a pity he didnt think of all this when he sold off our gold reserves, you don,t need a crystal ball to know not to sell at the bottom of the market. As for 10 yrs of growth the likes of we,ve not seen for decades, we all know it was just one big lie all done on borrowed money and hyper eago,s .......................
Its also typical of a man like him insisting Fred the shred should give up some of his pension for failing and yet !!!!!! Broon has failed miserably ,so has anyone suggested he give up some of his gold plated pension????????

"That one", what's "that one"?0 -
He can start by resigning, together with AD and crowd.
He single handedly created the regulatory system.
This is a too little too late.0 -

Just in the nick of time! I am so glad we have these forward thinking people at the top. Please remember other opinions are available.0 -

I am not a fan of GB by any stretch of the imagination, however I think it is slightly unfair to totaly blame him, and him alone for the whole sorry mess.0 -
This is ridiculous, the man's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. If he'd said exactly the opposite, i.e. we're going to leave the regulatory landscape as it is, the very same people would be out here, throwing the same abuse.
Admit it, you're all here with your anti-Brown agenda, ready to hijack any thread remotely related to the PM. The headline could have read "Brown saves 7 drowning babies" and you'd still be out with your pitchforks, frothing at the mouth like a pack of dogs.0 -

Yeah you're right I have an anti Brown agenda. I'm fed up of him now trying to blame the bankers when he was Mr Light touch, who promised not to let the house prices become over inflated, said he is prudent and is actually enormously reckless. All he does is go on TV and talk about "doing everything we can to..." He was the one who set up the current regulatory framework. As chancellor he had the power of reign in any actions he saw as reckless.
He was really good at taking credit in the good times but refuses to take any blame now that things have fallen apart.
Did you know that 14% of the UK's national debt has been incurred in the current tax year, worryingly the !!!! hasn't really hit the fan yet.0 -

Hang on just a moment there............ He was chancelor for approx 10 yrs and PM for the rest, who else is to blame?? wake up and smell the coffee, im not anti Brown or anti Labour if someone cocks up big time you resign thats what people use to do, "fall on the sword" it doesn,t happen any more they will do anything to cling on to the gravy train..........What you have written and acused people of is utter rubbish ........ this isn,t party political this is fact of life ......Now he,s even got the nerve to suggest he was calling for more regulation of the banks 18 months ago.. woopy bloody doo.........0 -

Isn't it wonderful the way governments anticipate problems and take prompt action to address them before everything goes to pot.
Brown and New Labour have spent the last 11 years feting the banking industry, awarding geniuses such as Goodwin with knighthoods, turning a blind eye to the massive expansion of credit whilst at the same time (witness the speech a few years ago by Blair) demanding the FSA adopt a light touch so as not to upset their new friends the bankers.
And yet we still haven't had even the slightest acknowledgment from Brown that he may have played a part in this whole sorry saga.0
