Two weeks ago I bought a dress In the shop it seemed fine just the straps needed altering
When my daughter saw me in it she said it was too big at the back
We took it back to the shop and the assistant told me they didnt do changes or refunds on sale goods
I said it was ridiculous as the dress was £ 50 anyway but they insisted it wasnt there policy and a small sign near the cash desk did say that but I asked why I wasnt told this when I bought the dress and all she said was it wasnt policy to tell everyone who bought things that they didnt change or do refunds
I ended up having to pay a small fee to have it altered
How do I stand regarding this query
Also a credit note wasnt offered to me
any help would be appreciated

They are correct in that they have no obligation to offer refunds or exchanges on non-faulty goods.

However, what did the sign say? Did it say simply "No refunds or exchanges"? Did it mention statutory rights or anything? If not, then they have broken the law by displaying such a sign. Unfortunately, this does not affect your situation. They were not obliged to refund or replace. But if you feel aggrieved by them and their sign is wrong, you could report them to TS, who will have a word with them.
