hi, i'm on jobseekers allowance and today got a letter from lloyds telling me that on wed i had gone £1.12 overdrawn (which i knew i had when i checked) but couldn't do anything because no JSA was due to go in until friday. The letter (one of their o/d interest charges pushed me over) says that i will be charged £15 o/d fee, plus £6 a day now for this. I think that given my situation and it was one of their charges (that they NEVER statement and i have to guess when it goes out, and the fact that i'm a customer of ten years, this is disgusting, over only £1.09.
i know many people on here complain and get these individual charges overturned. i have to do that, because £30 is half a week's money for me and we simply cannot afford it. How do i go about this and what is the best way to get results because this is just totally unreasonable.

Good luck. I had exactly the same problem with Lloyds last year, except mine went up to over £60 as it took me a while to notice (they're very lax about sending letters anyhow, and I had to have mine forwarded to uni). I spent ages going into the local branch (who were horrendously rude) and ringing customer services (had to use a mobile as no landline at the time, so cost me an absolute fortune), but I never got the money back.
Closed the account in the end, but even that was a hassle, as they didn't shut it when they said they would, then had the cheek to charge me *more* money before they would close it...felt like I was being blackmailed *fumes*.
Anyhow, the only recourse you have is if you're in financial hardship, but even then it's tricky. I tried using the same excuse as I am a student and at the time had no job and was living off student loan, but they were having none of it...again, very rude.
Anyhow, give it a shot and good luck! I suspect they'll say they can't do anything because of the ongoing legal case, though...you can't take it to financial ombudsman either, as they have exemption as long as the court case drags on, which could be for a while.0 -
Is it reasonable to spend more than you have, now there is a question?0

Before you opened or at any time within the 14 day cooling off period were you aware that such an event would trigger a charge and how much that would be?0

Give the guy a break, he was only overdrawn by a quid or so:rolleyes: The banks really are taking the pish with this kind of thing, I hope you get it back.0

3 days have passed since his letter but instead of speak nicely to the bank he decides to !!!!! on here about.0

What I don't understand about people on this forum- yes, you- is that the whole ethos of the forum is "moneysaving" and "consumer revenge" What Martin is about, is standing up to these people, and I don't think that I'm in the wrong place here expecting people to be supportive and offer suggestions.
If you think it's fair, then why don't you go and work for Lloyds, or RBS, then you'll be happy as a pig in sh!te, won't you? Spending all day smugly pointing out people's shortcomings. Dream job! Otherwise, I don't see why you're lurking around this forum- the whole POINT of which is to get charges back- trying to be facetious. If you don't like the ethos of this forum, and disagree with the fact that we want to quash these charges, well I fail to see what you get from being here...?"What...? I was only saying...."0 -
Simon Templar is prone to judgement, rather than assistance. As he is so perfect, it beggars the question why he needs to be on a forum which is about advice in the first place - he definitely isn't offering any.Target Cash Net Worth: £25K by January 2012

Ask the bank what you "buffer" zone is, most banks (I know Barclays does) allow you to go £5 over your limit without incurring a charge.0 -
Have you ever gone overdrawn on that account before? If you have been an exemplary customer then some banks will consider your circumstances if you phone customer services to complain about the amount. If they won't then ask them for the FSA's address. I tried this once with a credit card charge (I phoned up at 5.03pm on the day payment was due to pay and not before 5pm) and it worked. I don't know if it will for you but anything's worth a shot!0
