you're much better relying on feeling the babies movements and kicks for reassurance. the OP is not going to use the doppler until 20 weeks by which stage she should be feeling movements (although some women dont until a bit later than that).
Sorry I missed that bit about 20 weeks. God yeah, I was well feeling movement at 20 weeks, and in the last two weeks it has got stronger and be able to feel from the outside.
Sorry!0 -
My mw told me that so long as I was aware that there would be times when I couldn't find the heartbeat and didn't panic then it would be fine.
Got to weigh up peace of mind over potential panic.
Personally I am happy to use mine, even if I don't find the beat as I can hear movements. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow. I also have a BP moniter0 -
Hi, in answer to your question (rather than saying wether you should use one or not), we rented ours from a company off these guys http://www.dopplerhire.co.uk
£9.99 per month, got gel with it as well.
Congrats on your pregnancy!!0 -
I know a midwife who couldn't find her own babys heart beat using her doppler. She stopped using hers that day.
I wouldn't recommend one either, I've seen far too many women on another forum I go on run to the EPAU when they can't pick up the heartbeat.Work like you don't need money,Love like you've never been hurt,And dance like no one's watchingSave the cheerleader, save the world!0 -
Hi
Im wondering if anyone with experience of renting a doppler could advise me, I dont want to buy one as I only want to use it till my 20 week scan (im 15 weeks now) so im loooking to rent one but have no idea which site to use, I think I would prefer one with an LCD though.
Could anyone recommend one please?
I know many women love using theirs later in pregnancy too, especially when baby is having quieter days, and also to bond and let others listen.
If you are certain you only want to use it for 4 weeks then you can hire one from ebay or dopplerhire for £10 a month + £3-4 postage. The ebay feedback system should provide reassurance too. I think the LCD version is an extra £10. Read the descriptions carefully as some only amplify sounds and don't work well until after 25 weeks. Any genuine fetal doppler with 2 or 3mhz should work well.
If you wanted it any longer than one month it works out best to buy one. You can also sell it on - you should get all your money back as they've been the same price on ebay for the last 2 years! Or if you plan on having anymore kids it's best to buy too.
It's very easy to know what you're listening for, (like a galloping horse or a train) - although i think everyone knows what a fast heartbeat sounds like lol. As long as you know you may not find it every time straight away, it shouldn't cause any more worry. Chances are you will find it in a few days, rather than waiting weeks for your next appointment!0 -

Im actually going to be using it untill my 20 weeks scan or until I start feeling movement.0
