Lot of other independant testing around that show some additives do improve fuel consumption and help keep the fuel system and engine cleaner.
The difference between BP Ultimate Diesel / Shell V-Power / Total Excellium and "standard" diesel is just different additives in the fuel which is the same for everyone at the point it leaves the refinery.0 -

I looked into thia quite a bit for diesel. Millers ecomax increases the cetane number of the fuel in the same way as acetone does.
I used ecomax and found no difference so doubt there will be much improvement with acetone. Some swear by it.
I don't but the 'oh its a solvent...' line. If you have ever bought fuel additives for cleaning injectors etc they have solvents.0 -
Acetone as an additive? No I haven't and won't be trying it.
I won't be adding any solvent to my car.
Is your car a petrol or diesel?
The use of acetone is fairly common in people running on Biodiesel and straight or filtered waste veg oil.
Never tried it but improvements in fuel economy have been mentioned.
This was actually being done at least 5 yrs ago, so not a new thing.
I think it may be similar to putting a 1:200 ratio of top spec two stroke oil in diesel to increase lubricity, tried it on my Mondeo and felt it improved economy and engine was quieter, even a mate mentioned this without me saying anything so maby not placebo effect.
There are people that have been doing this for years with no mechanical ill effect, I suspect the links put there by the OP are just such reports.
Oops, just noticed this is a post from the past.............0 -
Oh god, there really are some idiots out there............ Acetone is highly corrosive to plastics/rubber, so if you want to f**k your car up then go ahead. Expect fuel hoses to crack, fuel filters to fall apart (internally) and lord knows what it's do to the fuel rail/injectors.
But i'd rather you didn't because I use Acetone for genuine reasons and I don't want the prices to sky rocket because of some pillocks spreading these rumours about using it in petrol.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
