    How would you do that if you were in a really bad condition in hospital? Its the conditions that are really serious that are the expensive ones to have treatment on

    But you've just said I'm 'out of the woods' in terms of serious trouble... I thought that was the whole reason you said the EHIC ceases to be applicable?!

    The EHIC gives covers just A&E treatment in some countries eg they treat you in casualty and then the same night place you on a ward, at this point in some countries you start paying. How are you going to get back home with a drip etc attached and when your in a bad way.

    Self Insure if you want but be aware the medical costs is some countries are astronomical
